The Commission for University Education (CUE) on Monday maintained the recognition of Senator Johnson Sakaja’s degree stands revoked.
In a statement, CUE Chairman Chacha Nyaigotti regretted the move by the senator to fail to appear before the commission and provide the required documents as directed.
The Commission had directed him to submit a list of items to prove he graduated from Teams University Uganda as he alleged.
“We want Sakaja to know CUE is the only institution that is mandated in law to recognize foreign earned degrees in order to allow IEBC to issue them with a nomination to run as governor/ DG, or president/ DP,” Chacha said.
On Friday, Nyaigoti requested Sakaja to present to the commission his graduation photos, his application for the course, the letter of admission from the University and evidence of registration, including his Student ID, to prove he actually studied there.
Chacha said that the commission also needs the Credit Accumulation and Transfer System (ATS), the course description and the course Units taken during Sakaja’s time at Team.
“We have written to Sakaja to provide the transcripts, examinations schedules, graduation booklet that has his name on it and receipts for; application fee, tuition fees, graduation and convocation,” Chacha said.
After a failed appearance on Monday, Chacha hopes Sakaja will still supply the required documents to facilitate the ongoing investigations.
He dismissed claims Senator Sakaja’s invitation to the commission was served through the media.
The CUE chair said the UDA Nairobi governor seat candidate was served accordingly with the invite letter adding that it was done in person.
He also said they sent out formal communication to the governor aspirant via WhatsApp, text message, phone call and a formal letter which was duly received and signed by Sakaja’s office regarding the previously stated 10:00 am meeting on Monday.
“So any other claim that he receiving our communication through the press is malicious and false. It is a lie,” the Commission’s chair said.
Sakaja claimed he only heard CUE’s invite through the local media streams.
Chacha warned Sakaja that any other method he is planning to use to verify his papers will not stop CUE from fulfilling their mandate.
Why is Chacha repeating Azimio bloggers talking points? He demands exactly what they were demanding of Sakaja. Demanding exam schedules and photos is a joke, who keeps timetables? Why is he doubting TEAM university? Lastly, why is Chacha still working for Government? This old man was the founder head of HELB in the 90s! Before that, he was the CEO of KIE, all books beared his signature. No wonder his behaviour is a manifest of dimentia
I graduated from a University abroad (not UG) and I had to get such info for a job I’d applied for to verify my credentials. I don’t see why it should be difficult for a public office holder of such a strategic county.
If you are doing distance learning then you would definitely end up with almost all of those items…you will have lecturers names and photos, emails, phone numbers, fellow students names, fees structures and proofs of payments, lecture hall names, lecture notes and other learning materials, exams and exam schedules, timetables, assignments and CATS …they are all send to you via the internet/ intranet…you also keep the correspondence in your emails…or would you delete? Even if you do delete the varsity stores everything on their intranet…And yes, it’s mandatory to take photos on the few occasions you happen to physically attend an event there…of which there is usually a requirement to personally attend certain events/ milestones.
I am a graduate of two universities not anywhere on thika road. If questions were to be raised about my degrees, hata sio Mimi nitajitetea. Wataandikia mwenye kuuliza wamwambie awache umeffi. The vice chancellor himuselefu will go and testify on my qualifications.
I might have a few pics of classmates but I didn’t attend my three graduations. And in one course, I don’t have pics with a single classmate but I do have some of their contacts.
The issue should have ended when TEAM university confirmed that he graduated there. It is not mandatory to attend graduations or take photos of anything.
