Everywhere you go in Kenya, that is the design. I think Kenyans just want to own a stone house, they don’t care about aesthetics. Also, if you ask an architech to design for you a 3-bedroom house, he will just give you that, just selling the same thing over and over
How come design za Mt kenya bado ndio ziko kitui? Mafundi wetu hufuata mtindo wenye iko kwa io wakati, kenya hatujali weather na climate.
Professionals wenye nadharau sana kenya ni wale wanajiita architects
climate is a regional thing.
below is a Scandinavian roof, steeped to deter snow and ice holding,

in Zambia, roofing terminate where by the wall, they don’t have overhangs like we do, reason, the windy season in Zambia is brutal and any over hang will get your roof blown.

Kwa country zengine na coastal areas za kenya wanazingatia climate na weather kwa ujenzi. Nyumba za coast kenya ziko better kuliko za bara, upepo ina circulate vizuri na sunlight inafika room zote.
Kenya bara roof ni Ile design iko kali io time, hakuna mtu anajali climate. Nairobi hakuna mtu anajali circulation ya upepo na sunlight.
Those sharp roofs are suitable for Europe and N. America where you have snow and thus want the snow to glide from the roof and not collapse the roof.
I have seen an increase in flat roofs but Kenyans should know that such roofs are suitable in deserts like in middle East where there is no rain. Otherwise unaweka flat roof in Nairobi and you will forever be dealing with rainwater seepage from the roof.
When I was living at the top floor at Hall 10 (Dag Hermaskjold hall) hapo University of Nairobi main campus, the University was periodically replacing the tar on the hostel flat roof to ensure no water was seeping into our rooms.
in the Scandinavian climatic condition, designing a roof that way is a matter of necessity , while Ndii’s house is designed that way for pure aesthetics. you also see how that roof terminates the front side of the house, that is due to high speed winds in the Northern hemisphere.
most of these if they’re in .ke , are for aesthetic purposes, but in some regions, one has very limited options on the roof designs. same way our windows and door are heavily fortified.
