Japan No Longer Number One Top Vehicle Exporter Or Manufacturer

Officials figures released in the last week show China exported 1.07 million vehicles in the period, up 58% compared to the first quarter of 2022.

At the same time Japan’s vehicle exports stood at 954,185, after edging up 6% from a year earlier.

China’s exports were boosted by demand for electric cars and sales to Russia.

Why would people who don’t even manufacture toothpick be interested in who is #1 car manufacturer ?

Japan is severely fucked. Economy has stalled, there are more old people than young people. Births are low, the countryside is empty as everyone wants to live in Tokyo. Also out of 10k refugees, they accept 10 only. They must reinvent the wheel if they don’t want immigrants.

A 1/2 crater of a mountain is needed to mine material to make one Tesla. The electric components from motor to controls require a large amount of rare earth metals. The hype for EVs began to fade 2 years ago.

It’s not a question of composition but resources: instead of using oil, you use electricity. But one has to be acquired by literally destroying the earth. Keep in mind why those minerals are called rare earth, you require large amounts of material to purify very little.
Be worried about Africa before you appease European tastes:

Nope. Sodium ion batteries cannot replace Lithium ion in cars. Not even in the long term. They are not as energy dense, have quick degradation and cost way higher. Physics will defeat you here.

That remains to be seen …
