Fred. K. Kago- the prolific writer who wrote the Kikuyu readers series Wĩrute Gũthoma, ( learn how to Read)
Born in 1913 in Thogoto, Fred. K. Kago was a reluctant schoolboy. He was admitted to the new Alliance High school in 1927.
Responsible for over 30 titles, Kagowas a staunch believer in the use of mothertongue in schools. He wrote many books in Kikuyu, English, Swahili, Kikamba and Dholuo
The late Kago passed away on July 17, 2005. He was 92 years old.
Unfortunately most of his books are no longer in print and his publishers Thomas Nelson and Sons ( later bought by the Evans Brothers) closed shop and had no local subsidiary.
