Thai royal family is accustomed to palace drama, the initiator of all these was Queen Sirikit.They wedded in 1950.
One of the most notorious scandals is related to the fact that the wife of the Thai Emperor openly cheated on her husband King Bhumibol Adulyadej with a royal bodyguard.
What did the king do after learning about his wife’s betrayal?
The Queen quickly learned that the bodyguard Nalund loved photography and composing Music. Such unusual hobbies for a bodyguard, this interested her so much because she loved music.
After several meetings,the queen openly seduced the bodyguard.
Since he was the head of the security service, this bodyguard knew very well ,when King Bhumibol was home and when he was busy with government affairs or attending important meetings .
Therefore on certain days, Nalund gave orders for bodyguards to attend these meetings along with the King, while he himself engaged in personal ’ security ’ of Queen Sirikit.
Taking photographs in public spaces, Sirikit began to take the bodyguard with her everywhere , she forced the husband to assign this bodyguard personally to her.
Sirikit soon decided that she was doing nothing wrong with the guard Nalund. They stopped hiding their affair and openly held hands In public, not paying attention to those around them.
This went on for a long time, the public did not dare make random guesses about it. However with time certain rumors began to appear.
In 1985, King Bhumibol learned about his wife’s infidelity . When she was asked , she gave an honest answer saying the husband had stopped paying attention to her. She said she didn’t see anything wrong with that.
Upon learning that the secret had been revealed to the King, the bodyguard panicked, he came to bow to Bhumibol , he fell on his knees to beg for forgiveness.
Soon after this , the bodyguard was found dead and the official course of death was said to be a sudden heart attack.
When Queen Sirikit saw the bodyguard again, ( his dead body) Sirikit lost consciousness several times and she sobbed. In her eyes the king was the killer of her new lover. Their love and marriage of 30 years turned into mutual hatred.
Sirikit later asked members of the royal family to attend the bodyguards funeral, she ignore all the rules and personally said goodbye to Nalund while her husband looked indifferently.
After those happenings, Queen Sirikit began to live an even more depraved life . She brought many different men to her palace. The king couldn’t tolerate such humiliation.
King Bhumibol said the queen needed to be ‘cured’ and forcefully sent her to the clinic. This became a public humiliation for her and confirmation of all those unpleasant rumors.
Since then the Queen, who once had respect and prestige, lost all that and her reputation in Thailand.
After several months in the hospital, an exhausted Sirikit gained a lot of excess weight, returned to the palace and knelt before the King with flowers in her hands asking for forgiveness.
The king accepted his wife’s apology and allowed her to take part in various events because a divorce would mean ruins to the royal family’s dignity. Their relationship however became tense with the king proving authority by reigning on his wife’s reckless and shameful behavior.
The king died in 2016, together they were married 66 years and had 4 children. Queen Sirikit died in 2025, she was born in 1932.
