Daniel Moruri, a Law Student at Mt Kenya University, told Citizen TV on Monday that his generation had seen through the government’s attempt to praise their protests in an effort to lessen protests. Several UDA MPs, including those who had castigated the protesters, appeared to change their tunes on Sunday praising Gen Zs for participating in democratic processes.
- “The people (leaders) are now pretending to be supporting us but we are not fools. As Gen Z, we have three characteristics. First, we are very idle because we don’t have work. Second, we are very wise and educated. Lastly, we are very energetic,” Moruri stated.
- Redempta Koimbori, during a media interview, corroborated Moruri’s stance noting that Gen Z is determined to ensure that the bill is dropped. “We know that the main thing is to reject the Finance Bill. They are trying to enjoin our protests by bringing amendments. We do not want amendments, we want the bill rejected.”
- Esther Gitaranga, a student at the University of Nairobi, criticised the leaders accusing them of attempting to segregate the young with harsh language.
- “As a national leader, why are you irritated because I can afford to take chicken at Ksh300 and pay for Bolt? This means that they have already placed us in a particular class. The moment you get out of the cocoon, they get very agitated and irritated,” Gataranga stated.
- "Right now, they know they are changing the language simply because at first, that was the side that favoured them with being on good terms with the President. But now they are realising that even the President is starting to listen. (scroll down for more coverage on UDA leaders’ changing tunes.)
- The Gen Zs further argued that since the protests have no designated leadership, it will be difficult for the Head of State to organise a meeting with them.
