the most important things about M-Pesa are

1. the idea
2. the execution on the ground…
   3.the +ve uptake by Kenyans
   4.the dominant position of Safaricom(telco fragmentation has made the idea a non-starter in other markets like UG )

otherwise, it’s a technically straight forward system that a team of just above average sw engineers can implement given resources…
This idea has been tried in advanced nations that have money and tech talent and has failed… coz of different reasons…

Safaricom has really made some risky key decisions - very genius moves that have propelled M-Pesa in the Kenyan market…

MPesa failed in South Africa because 70% of South Africans use banks to transfer money and in India and Eastern Europe, especially Romania and Albania, it failed because of frustrations from government regulatory authorities.
