Senator John Methu has survived an assassination attempt during a DCP rally in Kigumo, Murang’a County.

What began as a peaceful event turned chaotic after goons infiltrated the venue. Police moved in, blocked the rally, and fired teargas, forcing leaders to flee for safety.

A bullet hole was later found on Senator Methu’s vehicle, a chilling sign that this was not just political disruption, but a targeted assassination attempt.

Kiambu Members of Parliament are now calling for the county’s recognition as a standalone region separate from the Mount Kenya regional bloc.

In a press briefing on Wednesday, August 6, the lawmakers, including Gatundu North MP, Elijah Kururia, claimed that the high number of voters in the county makes them eligible to be recognised as a standalone region.

According to the MP, the move will enable the leaders to call for more economic and infrastructural developments from the national government and also push for more representation in the executive and other senior government positions.

“We have so many votes in Kiambu county, because we have 1.4 million voters, which is more than Nyeri, Murang’a, and Laikipia all together, we don’t want when the President comes to Mount Kenya for him to say that he is going to Kiambu,” Kururia said.

“Kiambu County, we want to stand as a region because we want our developments, Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretaries, and our own money, separate from other Mount Kenya Region counties,” he added.

The rapid social and economic expansion of the county, which they claim is the second largest in the country, deserves special recognition from the national government, separate from other counties, according to the MPs.

“If you look at how money is being divided, Nairobi gets the largest portion because of the needs there, but Kiambu should now be the second county receiving more funds because we need the infrastructure to support people who live here,” Said Gatundu South MP Gabriel Njoroge.

GEMA numbers are always exaggerated in our census so that their corrupt leaders can allocate murima more resources. Jambazi who knows their game from working under Uhuru is not letting them get away with it in 2027…Look below:sweat_smile:

Other Kiambu MPs who support the call include Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, Kabete MP Guthua Wamucukuru, and Kiambaa MP Njuguna Kawanjiku.

Kiambu is among the nine counties in the Mount Kenya Region, which include Nyandarua, Nakuru, Laikipia, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, and Nyeri.

In preparation for the upcoming 2027 General Elections, politicians from both the opposition and the ruling sides have engaged in a tug-of-war over who will win the trust of the region, which is often considered a vote-rich region.

The opposition side, led by the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has been at the vanguard of campaigning against President William Ruto’s administration in the region.

However, in an effort to restore the already dwindling public confidence in government, President Ruto’s allies, under the leadership of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, have also been waging a vigorous campaign in the area.

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has directed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to record a statement upon his return to Kenya, following controversial remarks he made concerning alleged terrorism plots.

Speaking on Saturday at the Keiyo South Economic Empowerment Program, the CS revealed that the former DP will be compelled to record a statement and provide a detailed explanation of the terrorism plots he has been alleging while in the US.

“He thinks that he is going to parade issues of terrorism in America to get votes,” Murkomen said.

“I want to say, without fear of contradiction, because he has said that he has information and he knows, and that he has an agent who is holding meetings with Al-Shabaab, as soon as he lands in Kenya, he must record a statement to tell us exactly which meetings he is having with terrorists,” Murkomen stated.

The CS’s directive comes after former DP Rigathi Gachagua accused President William Ruto of allegedly meeting with Al-Shabaab militia leaders during his trip to Mandera County.

Murkomen accused Gachagua of tarnishing Kenya’s image during his visit to the US, claiming he treated serious security concerns as a joke.

The Interior boss stated that Gachagua’s conduct has been deeply embarrassing, raising doubts about how he ever rose to the position of Deputy President.

“How did such a person ever get a chance to become the Deputy President of Kenya? It is just unbelievable. We must carry ourselves with the level of responsibility deserved when holding public office,” Murkomen stated.

Speaking at the same event, current DP Kithure Kindiki called on the relevant authorities to ensure that his predecessor records a statement over the remarks he termed damning to the country’s security.

“We therefore want to ask the relevant authorities to make sure that the people who claim to have information on terrorists and criminals are held accountable and record their statements so that they can assist in investigations,” Kindiki said.

Previously, Mandera Senator Ali Roba had also called on the DCI to apprehend the former DP over the remarks, saying that Gachagua’s sentiments were a desperate attempt to mislead the public for cheap political mileage.

Gachagua has been in the US since July 9, as part of a planned two-month tour aimed at engaging with Kenyans in the diaspora and international stakeholders.

Governor ALI ROBA’s full statement after GACHAGUA claimed that RUTO met 3 senior AL-SHABAAB leaders in Mandera at night to discuss business

It has come to our attention that Mr. Rigathi Gachagua has once again chosen to recklessly peddle blatant falsehoods in a desperate attempt to mislead the public for cheap political mileage.

  1. FALSE CLAIM: That the President met “other people” during his visit to Mandera - This claim is not just false it is a calculated, malevolent lie. As a leader who personally accompanied H.E. President William Ruto from the moment he landed in Mandera to the moment he departed, I affirm without fear of contradiction that the President only met officially recognized Mandera leaders and the public in open forums.

Every aspect of the President’s one-day itinerary was transparent and in the public domain. No private, backdoor, or suspicious meetings took place.

The suggestion by Mr. Gachagua that the President met with unknown individuals is a shameful fabrication designed to sow division and confusion among the people.

It is deeply unfortunate that a man who once postured as a symbol of truth has now reduced himself to a serial purveyor of falsehoods, unable to recall the last time he spoke the truth.

Such conduct is not only disgraceful it is dangerous, especially when deployed to distort presidential engagements with historically marginalized communities.

  1. FALSE CLAIM: That security vetting for Northern Kenya has been removed Mr. Gachagua’s assertion that the government has removed vetting is yet another deliberate distortion of facts.

What President Ruto stated clearly in Mandera is that the discriminatory and excessive bureaucratic vetting that has for years been selectively imposed on communities in the Northern Frontier District (NFD) must end.

The President emphasized that all Kenyans must be subjected to one uniform standard of vetting fair, consistent, and constitutional without stigmatization based on region or ethnicity. To twist this clear and just position into a false narrative of national insecurity is reckless, dishonest, and deeply disrespectful to the people of Northern Kenya who have suffered decades of systemic exclusion and profiling.

The American Government must not fall for the dilutions and desperations for attention and favours using fabricated lies from Mr. Gachagua. DCI must do its job. The Honors is upon Gachagua to substantiate his claims with evidence or face the law. The burden of proof for all his lies with him.
