Wamunyoro Commander Coming to Trumpland for $$$$

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will be prosecuted like any other Kenyan if he is found to have any connections to the violence that erupted on June 25, DCI boss Mohamed Amin has confirmed.

Amin made the remarks on the afternoon of Monday, June 30, during a press briefing to provide updates on the investigations, five days after protests turned violent in several parts of the country.

During his brief, the DCI boss was questioned on the plausibility of Gachagua facing prosecution in the event he was found to be a person of interest in the protests.

According to the DCI boss, no one was immune to prosecution, and the former Deputy President would face the full force of the law if investigations tied him to the Wednesday violence.

“With regard to Rigathi, I would like to put it very clearly that Rigathi Gachagua does not enjoy any immunity against prosecution. He is subject to the laws of the land,” Amin said.

'If in our investigations, he is found to have been involved in criminal activity, then action will be taken against Rigathi Gachagua."

The DCI boss further revealed several notable findings from the investigations so far, including that the violence witnessed in various parts of the country, including Nairobi, was by design and not random.

“Our investigations have uncovered disturbing incidents . There have been destruction of critical government infrastcurture. Several firearms and police equipment were stolen and some of these weapons have already been used in violent robberies,” Amin went on.

“These actions were not spontaneous, they were orchestrated and we are actively pursuing the mobilisers and financiers of these acts and they will be brought to justice soon.”

Gachagua later stopped a funeral procession in Luanda to address mourners who had carried a dead man’s coffin while on their way from the mortuary.

In an unexpected turn, Gachagua used the opportunity to address both the mourners and a crowd of residents who had gathered.

During his brief speech, he called on them to chant that President William Ruto would be a one-term leader before releasing them with a Sh 100,000 gift.

In another twist of events, Mt Kenya leaders today asked former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to stop his attacks on Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

Led by the Meru region chairman, Adriano Aruyaru, the elders insisted that Kindiki must be respected because of the position he holds in the country.

“Rigathi Gachagua, stop insulting Kindiki. You say he has no bass, but people listen when he speaks and respect him. Respect the leaders of the country.”

The elders reiterated that they only work with the government of the day, and any other person who wants to work with them must wait for the 2027 elections.

They added that whoever is elected president also becomes their president.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has condemned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s controversial sentiments targeting President William Ruto.

Duale on Saturday evening accused the former DP of making ‘reckless’ and ‘harmful’ remarks that could potentially plunge the country into chaos if not controlled.

This is after Gachagua criticised the Head of State for reportedly frustrating Mt Kenya people and using divisive tactics to stall the populous region’s progress.

Responding to Gachagua’s sentiments, Duale said that the former DP’s statement lowered the standards of Kenya’s leadership and that the latter was out to sow division among Kenyans.

“We know Mr Gachagua is in a self-destructive mode. But he cannot burn the country as he destroys himself. Such reckless statements are dangerous for our country’s peace and stability. This is truly lowering the bar for leadership,” Duale wrote.

Meanwhile, the former DP made the statement during the burial of his maternal aunt, who died on June 28. Gachagua said that the country was in dire need of help, adding that his deceased aunt had warned him against Ruto’s leadership, but he failed to listen.

He went ahead to accuse the President of allegedly attempting to persecute his family members and the broader Mt Kenya region for failing to back his leadership.

However, Gachagua dismissed fears of being persecuted by the current regime, stating that he was ready for any potential harm against him and his family.

“We are in trouble and at a crossroads. My mother here has warned me that William Ruto is an evil man and if he is elected as president, he will persecute me, my children, and my community, and it has come to pass.”

“I am not worried about myself because I am the one who caused the mess. I can be persecuted, but my children also can be persecuted for my community. We need help,” Gachagua said.

During the event, Gachagua recounted the times his aunt used to call him and expressed concern over his closeness with Ruto. “She told me that the person I was walking around with, Ruto, is not good. She warned me to be careful. But I told her that he had changed," he said.

Gachagua, in his lengthy speech, narrated that despite her aunt’s advice, he chose to ignore them.

“She told me to leave him alone, but I refused. She added that this person was going to mess with me and even my children. I disputed her," he added.

Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has said that the government will arrest former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following the detention of his allies.

According to the lawmaker, who is a close ally of President William Ruto, the government will also continue to apprehend other Gachagua allies who are said to have facilitated the demonstrations.

Speaking in Meru on Saturday, July 6, Gachagua confirmed that two Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) youth leaders were recently arrested and re-arrested over alleged links to the June 25 protests.

Gachagua claimed that President Ruto had directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to arrest young people who were affiliated with his party. He further claimed that the operation is also being coordinated by governors allied with the President.

Sudi, who asserted that the arrest of Gachagua and his allies is not politically motivated, stressed that the move is aimed at reinforcing the country’s security and peace.

“I see Gachagua Inciting and telling people that the President is calling for the apprehension of some people. But these were the financiers, and you were one of them. And I want to tell you that after apprehending all of them, we will come for you,” Sudi said.

“You cannot be financing the destruction of people’s property and spearheading hate, incitement, and bad politics, which often lead to the destruction of properties,” he added.

According to the DCI boss, Mohammed Amin, in a statement on Monday, June 30, authorities have already kickstarted an intense crackdown to apprehend those responsible for the stealing of police firearms and the destruction of critical government infrastructure and businesses witnessed during the June 25 protests.

According to Amin, 485 people have been arrested by authorities in relation to the violence as of Monday. Amin claims that 37 suspects are still being investigated, while 448 suspects have already been charged.

The DCI boss further claimed that if the former deputy president is found to have any connection with violence witnessed during the demonstrations, he will face the full force of the law.

However, the DCI boss clarified that no summons have been made against the DCP party leader so far.

“With regard to Rigathi, I would like to put it very clearly that Rigathi Gachagua does not enjoy any immunity against prosecution. He is subject to the laws of the land,” Amin said.

“If, in our investigations, he is found to have been involved in criminal activity, then action will be taken against Rigathi Gachagua,” he added.

Rigathi Gachagua has declared that he is not afraid of any threats of arrest being made by the President William Ruto administration as he prepares to jet out of the country tonight.

Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday, July 9, Gachagua claimed that some of his close associates had received threats that alluded to him being blocked from travelling to the United States for diaspora engagements.

*Ngunjiri Wambugu: Gachagua attacked Uhuru viciously every day for it!!! Called him mlevi and all other disgusting names. Attacked his Mother. And then continued to attack him, his family, his property & businesses & his party, even after they won. ***And only changed strategically when he got into trouble with his friends & knew they would impeach him.
But listening to him today, one would think he was on our side in 2022 trying to stop Ruto from being President.

“I have been threatened by people close to William Ruto who called some of my people today and said that they will want to stop me from leaving the country,” Gachagua claimed.

“I have no problem. If you want to come and arrest me at the airport, as you were threatening us, you can go ahead. You cannot sell fear to us, and even if you sold it to us, we cannot buy it.”

On July 8, the Director of Public Prosecutions approved and filed terrorism charges against 37 Kenyans accused of causing disruption, including the burning of the Kiambu Law Court during the June 25 commemorative protests. Two of them are well-known Gachagua allies.

On Wednesday, July 9, Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, another Gachagua ally, was also present in court to face terrorism charges after being accused of funding goons during the July 7 Saba Saba Day protests.

Gachagua is set to go on a two-month trip to the US to woo diaspora votes, his first foreign trip since his ouster in October 2024.

Between July and August, Gachagua will visit several cities in the states of Texas, California, Washington, Massachusetts, and Maryland.

A group of masked and armed men, moving in a fleet of Subaru vehicles and allegedly opening fire in Kiserian, Ngong, and Kitengela during the Saba Saba Day protests, belongs to the National Intelligence Service (NIS), according to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Addressing the press on Wednesday afternoon, Gachagua alleged that the officers whom he called a ‘killer squad’ operate under the leadership of the Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Noordin Haji, and consist of 101 well-trained officers.

According to him, the killer squad was dispatched during the recent Saba Saba protests to deal with dissenting voices. He noted that the special team moved around in unmarked Subarus, shooting aimlessly at protesting Kenyans.

He further disclosed that the elite unit was formed while he was the deputy president and that the officers were recruited from the Administration Police Unit for special training on abduction.

“This special squad in Subarus are disguising themselves as DCI officers, yet they are not. I would like to clarify that the NIS has procured Subarus to give the impression that the killer squad is from the DCI,” Gachagua alleged.

“The truth of the matter is that this squad has nothing to do with the DCI. This squad of 101 people was forced while I was still in government. Officers were recruited from the Administration Police unit for special training,” he added.

During the presser, Gachagua revealed that during the Saba Saba demonstrations, the special squad was mostly deployed in the Mt Kenya region and other regions not perceived to be friendly to the current regime.

Gachagua has responded to claims by President William Ruto that there are plans to overthrow the government using a spate of demonstrations across the country.

Gachagua, during a press conference on Wednesday, July 8, dismissed Ruto’s earlier claims, insisting that the opposition was intent on taking down the President through the ballot.

“We want to tell you that the Wantam movement is not getting you out of power outside the constitution. No one wants to overthrow your government. I and the people we work with are on record saying we want to remove you from the State House via the Ballot,” Gachagua clarified.

Earlier on Wednesday, President Ruto went on an untamed tirade during the launch of the Police Housing Project at Kilimani Police Station in Nairobi as he faulted unnamed individuals over a string of protests that have been witnessed since June.

The Head of State, visibly agitated, accused a section of political leaders of sponsoring chaos and protests across the country in recent weeks, warning that the government would no longer tolerate attempts to destabilise the nation.

“I have been quiet, and I have tolerated these people who want to change the government using unconstitutional means—but enough is enough,” Ruto stated. “We will not allow it. We are coming for you,” he added. “Those plotting to remove me from office before 2027 must know we will not let them destroy this country through unconstitutional means.”

But in a direct rejoinder to the President, Gachagua accused the Head of State of pushing a narrative that there were plans to power grab, to justify the use of excessive force on specific elements.

Gachagua went on, “This narrative you are creating that there is an attempt to overthrow the government is for you to have the opportunity to use the terrorism act to profile communities and to persecute leaders opposed to your administration.”

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Raila Odinga, has taken a swipe at Rigathi Gachagua, claiming that the former Deputy President is not a better option for the presidency.

Speaking on Saturday afternoon at a funeral service in Bomet, Odinga noted that even if Gachagua became the president, he would not bring any meaningful change to the country.

He revealed that Gachagua’s past performance as the country’s second Deputy President showed no evidence of proper leadership, and argued that making him Ruto’s replacement would not bring any improvements to the country.

“Even if you make Rigathi Gachagua the next president, there is no big difference he will bring to this country. We need to do things afresh,” Raila commented.

Odinga, in his speech, stated that the current challenges facing the nation could not be solved by a single person and that finding a lasting solution required the input of every Kenyan.

He also expressed his support for the youth but warned against the infiltration of youthful protests by goons seeking to destroy the nation and loot property.

Odinga further cautioned Kenyans against being used by politicians to fulfil their agendas. According to Raila, making chants like ‘Ruto Must Go’ was not the solution to the country’s challenges.

“We know that our Constitution has some minor gaps that need to be addressed. That is the reason I told Kenyans that now is the right time for us to hold a national conversation,” the former Prime Minister reiterated.

“We should talk so that we can know where the problem is. Protests and chants of ‘Ruto Must Go’ will not solve the problems. Even if Ruto leaves office, it will not solve the challenges,” he added.

Raila’s scathing attack on the former DP comes hours after Gachagua dismissed Odinga’s call for a national dialogue to address the country’s challenges.

Gachagua and Dorcus Rigathi during a discussion with Kenyans in Seattle, July 11, 2025.

Gachagua, who was addressing Kenyans living in the United States, argued that the ODM party leader had previously engaged in similar talks without producing tangible results.

According to Gachagua, the former Prime Minister is irrelevant in the current political discourse, further describing Odinga as an ‘opportunistic’ man who always tries to find his way into every administration.

“Raila is irrelevant in the political discourse because every election cycle, he loses and finds his way into government. He wants to be in government but doesn’t want responsibility,” Gachagua revealed.
