Colin Powell and Condolezza Rice were more effective than Henry Kissinger in creating an actual response to modern threats to the ever evolving theatre of war.. not developing theoretical battlefield doctrine for the ‘good old boys’ club, but being brown, they never got enough credit from the structured racist framework that is USAF, USMC and the US Navy.

After 911, Colin Powell confidently gave a presentation on national TV claiming Iraq was hiding weapons of mass destruction, complete with maps and satelite photos of trucks and warehouses supposed to have been used for storage and transportation, being beamed to the viewer. It’s now quite obvious none of this was true, as no WMD were ever found there to date, yet many Iraqis and US marines lost their lives in the ensuing senseless war.

The truth as you’ve said, was that there was no WMDs, but there were plenty of chemical weapons which Saddam had used not only in Kuwait, but also on his own citizens. Kuwait itself had sued Iraq at the UN for the same weapons that George Bush Jr, in his infinite wisdom, escalated to WMDs (a euphemism for nukes) because he knew it was the only way to get the US military to commit to an EXTREMELY expensive war overseas.
His tiny Texan brain thought it would be a quick affair like his Dad’s invasion in the Gulf War, but he forgot the core rule of waging war i.e. the enemy has to pay for the cost of being invaded, not the other way around. That’s how America bled itself dry maintaining a nation-state system it destroyed.. for 20 YEARS!!
In my view, Powell (and Rice) were just cogs in a well executed plot to destroy America’s domestic economy. It’s a case study in military industrial complex’s overreach and overestimation of the dollar hegemony. Wars need gold to sustain.. not paper money and bravado.
