Title Deeds Revoked In Kajiado. "Outsiders" in Limbo

The fate of the more than 60 people who own parcels of land at Mosiro, Kajiado county remains unknown after their title deeds were revoked.

The lands commission canceled the titles for parcels traversing 52,452 acres in the area on Tuesday, most of which were either bought or freely issued.

NLC chairman Muhammad Swazuri said the land - within Keekonyokie section - was declared an adjudication section in late 1980s and dished out illegally to non-locals.

He said hundreds of title deeds were issued after the adjudication to various officials in the ministry of lands.

He said the officials, at the time, exploited their positions to issue titles to people who had had no rights to land.

Lands CS Jacob Kaimenyi, Senate Committee on Land chair Lenny Kivuti, chairman parliamentary committee on land Alex Muiru, Senators Stephen ole Ntutu (Narok), Peter Mositet (Kajiado), Kajiado West MP Moses Sakuda and county commissioner, Harsama Kello were present when the order was issued.

He said under section 5 of the Land Adjudication Act (Cap 284 of the Laws of Kenya) on July 16, 1986, the Land Adjudication Committee comprising of 20 local residents was appointed to ascertain the extent of existing rights to land within the section and to record them.

“In 1990, a total of 52,452 acres were adjudicated upon; about 60 parcels of land were demarcated and titles issued to ‘wrong people’,” Swazuri said.

In 1991, the High Court sitting in Nairobi before Justice Dugdale quashed a case that had been filed by a group of people who had been allocated land in Mosiro.

This was after three locals Sapai ole Saigilu, Pose Moipei and Kishanto Kurrinyo contested the allocation.

Sakuda said he was upbeat about the revoking of the titles because the issuance of the same was part of the land injustices visited on the local Maasai.

Mosiro and Ilood Ariak group ranches in Kajiado West sub-county is said to have lost 150,000 acres of land to “outsiders” in the said period.

Need to adjust

Sio kwa ubaya but IF, narudia for the sycophants, IF the 1982 coup had succeeded in ousting yule looter wa baringo and we got people who actually gave a damn, would such things have happened?

Sorry to the guys who’d bought some land there.
The maasai need protection from shiny eyes. Middle men ripped off maasais when they sold ,Kitengela,Rongai, and most of kajiado generally .

But the country still went to the dogs

could have been worse…problem with coups is they tend to be successive…we have seen that its after 9/11 that coups and insurgencies are no longer in vogue. that could be the time Kenya would have been rebuilding.

Most of modern Kenya is Masai land just hope the one you buy was taken over so long ago its been accepted.

shida is when you have the likes of Ntimama inciting people who blew their cash to ‘seek redress’…and the real grabbers ni wazungu with their ‘conservancy’ bull

This is just plain rubbish, you clearly don’t understand the maasai land issues or any land issues for the matter :rolleyes: Land is sold on a willing buyer, willing seller bases and the price is based on the prevailing market rates. If a few years later the property appreciates in value, how can the seller claim that he was ripped off?:rolleyes:

Group ranches in Maasai country is the equivalent of communal land which was supposed to be sub divided among community members.

To put it simply it means any land given out to non community members is illegal, plain and simple and that’s what Justice Dugdale found in his ruling. Unfortunately most of the Maa leaders of that period wanted to curry favor with the Moi regime and were in cahoots in the theft of huge tracts of Maasai land.

Maasais have this habit of playing mimi ni maasai jinga when they already sold land willingly and squandered the money with 4x4s and whores , they feign illiteracy yet the same chap has kids in the US and UK and has well read relations all round .
Maasais have to decided whether they are to be treated like normal Kenya citizens or as retards who need special protection from the govt like rhinos !You can play both sides like feminists !
