I can tell you what tipping does coz I was a waitress in my student days and loved it. Tips paid some of my bills. It was a job with an agency and I could pick hours/venues around my studies. I had to learn how to lay the cutlery on the table and also had to learn how to polish silverware. Hard work, running around on your feet…pls it kept me fit, no gyming. Win win win.

5-15% of the bill depending on service level. 5% is poor service. 20% is if you are not responsible for the charge eg your company is paying.
This is definitely a good rule of thumb to follow as it will encourage excellent service provision.

Most female waiters are single mothers. They are paid around 10k per month or even less. i have interacted with several and they all tell him the tips keeps them going. At my local, they often request for “soda” or “chupa moja”. On a good day, a waiter can take home around 2k in tips. that keeps them going despite the hardship of leaving their children alone at night and being bothered by drunk customers.
A former colleague of mine was once tipped 100k by a Chinese client having done some consultancy work for him.
I do it whenever I feel the person providing the service has gone out of his way to serve me properly especially in restaurants and watchies.
I also tend to find myself tipping sexy waitresses for reasons that I am yet to understand.
With that amount I pay all of Kenya’s external debts.
