There’s something extremely fishy in that Usahihi Highway Project. Usahihi is basically what the Ruto administration is calling the Nairobi-Mombasa Dual-carriageway project.
That Yues Company (Everstrong Capital LLC) that was awarded the Nairobi-Mombasa Toll Highway Project has Ruto’s footprints all over its socials, including the electric buses/cars stuff.
I was drawn in when it retweeted a propaganda Tweet by Ahmednassir saying Rtd. President Uhuru Kenyatta had inflated the cost. Uhuru’s total cost was 309 Billion, and it was to be awarded to a more than 125-years old Yues company- Bechtel Corporation. It was dropped, and the argument then was that the funding (PPP) was impractical.
It is at this point that Uhuru’s administration looked East, and China was earmaked to do the job. But then the term was coming to an end.
Well, then wheelbarrows happened.
Ruto’s cost is 471 Billion-to be financed through a public private partnership (which they rejected); and the tender has been won by Everstrong Capital, which was founded just the other day in 2015.
The Kenyan investors who will partly fund the project will obviously not be named, and your guess is as good as mine. Among the notable figures/partners in the Company is Kyle McCarter (Former Yues Ambassador to Kenya. He once Tweeted about this project) and Henry Kianda (Former CEO and Trust Secretary of Kenya Power Pension Fund, et al).
By the way, even Pension Funds will co-fund this project. Remember Ruto saying “You cannot save 200 shillings as pension”? Could he have been eyeing this deal…
