Today the President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta attended a prize giving ceremony in Eldoret. The president however was left dumb struck when he was reading out the names of the athletes to be feted and he came across the name Kipchoge Keino.
The President could not comprehend how and why a parent could name his/her son that obscene name, as he was quoted saying “mimi nashangaa, mzazi gani anaweza ita mtoto wake hili jina la matusi” even efforts by Kalenjin elders to explain to the president that the name had another meaning in the Kalenjin dialect could not make the president say the name in public.
Back in klost there was a nut case that posted a joke about an athletic event at Nyayo Stadium .
One mean guy on being told he had to pay 10 bob refused and started walking away.
As he was leaving the crowd inside started cheering…
'keino, keino, keino… ’
The guy hurriedly returned, paid and entered the stadium and asked those present…
’ kiha, nikiau? Onanie ni nyonio nindariha '.(where and whose, let me also be shown as I have paid).
Am telling you that day I cried real tears guys were thinking I was nuts.
