Taxi driver's strike

I already did so. No response yet

But why do they expect a ROI of 2 years kwani wanafikiria ni pyramid scheme?
I think a ROI of 5 years is fair tunza gari vizuri and it will give you service. Most non app taxis are KA- something.

Kama app imewashinda siwarudi kwa traditional taxi system tuone…washenzi

The business is no longer viable

Mwingine ameniibia saa huu tu na taxify. Place nimezoea kulipa 800 amenicharge 1400.and he was saying eti the app companies are ‘eating’ a lot and they’ve invested zero. Nimecheka sana. Just told him to unsubscribe

Because the taxi guys used to reap us off and that’s why they strike becuase theu want to go back to stealing from us.

You know the funny bit is they have to comply to modern times, problem they want to force things the Kenyan way.
People are already used to apps, there’s no way I’ll go out on the street look for a cab, we have the apps available and I can budget and see how much it will cost me way in advance. No surprises later.
Taxi guys need to get their act together.

They were the true definition of a cartel. You used to approach one driver and ask to be taken from point A to point B, the driver tells you it will be 3k, you protest that it’s too much and move to another but by the time you start negotiating the 1st driver will have communicated to the rest and told them the figure you were given. From there it was either you use the other driver at that price or swallow humble pie and return to the 1st one.
Very useless bunch of people.
And if you happened to approach one while drunk with a kunguru in tow the figure quoted used to be crazy.

We are surely not ready to go back to those medieval times. At Naivas Westlands entrance, those old taxi guys based there, saw them chase an Uber guy. When the Uber was gone one guy was like “Akwende huko hatutaki gari za bei rahisi kubebea hapa” An unkempt guy was supposedly an owner of one of those old looking jalopies lined up there.Who pays them the much they ask for in these days.

:D:DI can relate

These old taxis are a cartel. The figures they quote are unbelievable. That’s why they make 2 or 3 trips a day, while the Uber guys hit even 20.

On the other side, Uber should review their charges upwards. I’ve been carried uncountable times, and the drivers are always complaining how little they earn. Initially it was like 60 bob per kilometer, now I think it’s 20 bob. Competition forced Uber to reduce the prices.
Alafu Uber takes a huge chunk of the money, I think its 25%.
Imagine earning 100,000, then 25,000 is taken automatically. Another similar figure or more goes to fuel.

One Uber guy was showing me the math. Majority of their trips are short 200 bob trips. When they deduct Uber percentage, fuel, service and car owner share, they can remain with something like 50 bob per trip.
That’s why they often cancel short trips and tell you to request another driver.

Alafu these cars accumulate miles like silly. Some of them do over 300 km per day. For a normal car, you service after about 6 months. A well maintained Uber is serviced every 3 or so weeks.

Owners who drive for themselves benefit a bit more, but just as an employment, not business.

GASP! That almost soiunds like the PAYE tax which employed people see on their payslips! Poor uber drivers! Why should they have to give up anything?

Because employed people are they only ones taxed by the government? Uber guys also pay income tax. Now pick any any employed chap and tell them that their gross has been reduced from 50 to 20k.
While at it, clarify that they’ll still have to pay 25% from this new gross.

I wanted to say 'touche!".

But then I remembered that the 25% per cent paid by the drivers is from their gross income before they meet any operating expenditure (fuel, spares, service, etc). I think 25% is too steep from just supplying a software…

I wasn’t aware that it was snuck into the contract and they didn’t know it was a thing before they signed up. They really were screwed over. You’re right.

Inje ya Naivas ni ngumu hata kwa another car kupata parking .Those stone age taxis have dominated that place .The same applies just 100 metres from there, pale Viking House /Fogo Gaucho they chase the likes of Uber and Taxify away. The ones at Fogo Gaucho entrance are so brutal they at one time beat up a guard to a point that he was in ICU for a couple of days.

Ni mauchungu na fitina but yote ni wao wenyewe wamejiletea. We need to change with times

Yaahh altogether that need to be looked into. The apps owners are taking to much from them.

Uber like Facebook changes its terms regularly without consulting its users. Once you shed your ignorant sarcasm, you might be told that Uber has been lowering the price per km without asking its drivers.
