Tanzania has entered a new stage of development in the natural gas sector following the confirmation of the existence of large reserves estimated at 57.54 trillion cubic feet, a move expected to change the direction of the National Economy.

Speaking at the Powering African Summit in Washington Dc on March 21,2026, the Deputy Minister of Energy, Hon. Salome Makamba said that this huge resource makes Tanzania one of the countries with the greatest opportunities for investment in energy in Africa.

She said that despite these achievements, approximately 70 percent of the areas with potential oil and gas have not yet been explored, which provides a great opportunity for investors to participate in exploration and extraction activities.

Hon. Salome explained that the Government is in the preparation stages of starting a new season of awarding oil and gas exploration blocks as a strategy to attract new investors and increase the production of these resources.

He added that Tanzania is now moving towards the implementation of major gas projects including the LNG project, which is expected to open up international markets and increase national income.

The government aims to ensure that natural gas is used more domestically for electricity generation, industrial operations, domestic use and transportation to increase the value of the resource, he said.

In addition, he added that investment is needed in key infrastructure including gas pipelines, gas filling stations and distribution systems to achieve widespread use of this clean energy, so it is an opportunity for investors to come to Tanzania and invest in these projects which will not only benefit our nation but investors will also appreciate that as a country we have created an excellent investment environment with transparency and certainty.

He added that the use of natural gas will reduce industrial production costs and help protect the environment by reducing dependence on dirty fuels such as wood and charcoal.

These steps are expected to enable Tanzania to fully benefit from the wealth of natural gas, increase employment,
