Supermarket Vs Ex UK Bikes

Wadau ebu nihelimishe kidogo hapa… I see Brand New Supermarket bikes going for 20 to 30K. There are also rusted and worn bikes going for more than 30K…

Why would one buy a worn exuk bike with handrails looking like zilikuliwa na panya, instead of getting a brandnew Supermarket Bike

Resale products especially branded ones have a high resale value due to workmanship.

Used Peugeot bicycle from Europe costs like 2 Chinese new bicycles of the same size

Bought my boy one of those supermarket bikes it didn’t last a month. I went for an ex uk and two years down the line it’s still as good as new. Very hardy

Mine (giant) is 5 years plus and functioning perfectly although the gears have started acting up

Supermarket bikes are made of cheap Chinese crap. You will always be at the Fundi every other weekend. On the other hand, Ex-Uk bikes have quality original components

Chinese ones are also very heavy…not ideal for young ones

How does one objectively qualify such a statement?

if its just for use around the compound which is the case with most kenyan kids, just get them a good shiny one from the supermarket - also if you dont know much about bikes get one from the supermarket, otherwise the second hand ex uk also have crappy bikes from china which utauziwa expensively for nothing. For me if bei allows to get a decent new thing I would rather that than second hand thing.

lakini its not like they are using them on those European tour races where one has to carry their bike for some distance or the small differences in speed matter and as such one gets some carbon or some fancy light metal frame - lakini how does weight ya bike inconvenience kids.

Carbon frames, rims etc…lighter and more expensive. Most kid’s bikes imported from china target the low end market…so materials are mostly aluminium which happens to be heavier but cheaper. The ones being praised by OP are slightly more expensive because the frames are lighter since they are likely made from carbon fiber. Brand new would be very expensive

Ah, that makes sense.

How old is the kid. My two year old struggled but akipata ya neighbour anaendesha mbio sana…

There has to be a reason. A supermarket bike will give you troubles after the first few months while an ex-UK will go for decades trouble free. A rough kid will blow the supermarket bike within days. Not so for the ex-UK.

Hizo unasema za supermarket zimejaa huku kwa maestates hapo kwa balcony na stores…zingine hupewa relatives wa ushagoo. In short, hazina maisha…

Very insightful… But how does one get a good Ex-Uk bike bila kugongwa sana ama kuuziwA just a secondhand Supermarket Bike in the pretext ni Exuk?

Considering you also simply cant compare prices between sellers A and B and go with the lowest

Ex UK bikes are the best. Don’t go with the shit of new things.

this statement is incorrect. i have a bike that was bought in 2008 when i was in primary school and upto now its up and functioning. ilinunuliwa 8k, and it was a mountain bike. haijawai rust though gears hazifanyi kama kitambo, brakes na tyre nilibadilisha zote, carrier iliharibika, haina torch na dynamo charger yenye ilikuja nayo. nilibadilisha kiti, yenye ilikuja nayo iliisha meno.

@Ngimanene-Na-matharo kuja kiasi.

Na by the way nilifika hapo kweny shujaa mall na niliona bikes kwa bei nafuu. 7500 bike msuri na 13000 za aluminum.

They’re made of higher quality material and parts compared to cheap Chinese bikes.

An ex UK bike can give you 10 years and a new bike will give you 3 years
