Donald Symons in “The Evolution of Human Sexuality” Chapter 8 says this:
“AMONG ALL PEOPLES it is primarily men who court, woo, proposition, seduce, employ love charms and love magic, give gifts in exchange for sex, and use the services of prostitutes. … Everywhere sex is understood to be something females have that males want; it constitutes a service or favor that females in general can bestow on or withhold from males in general, although “favorless” intercourse also occurs, and the exchange may be reversed in certain circumstances.”
Also,
" Blau (1964) describes the economics of love in the United States as a series of transactions between a male and a female in which the male exchanges evidence of “commitment” to the female for sexual access to her. Courting is thus a series of strategies and counter-strategies, with mutual love as the goal, in which sex and commitment are manipulated, each partner attempting to maximize gains and minimize losses:
"A woman promotes a man’s love by granting him sexual and other favors, as demonstrations of her affection and as means for making associating with her outstandingly rewarding for him, yet if she dispenses such favors readily—to many men or to a given man too soon she depreciates their value and thus their power to arouse an enduring attachment, aka kunguru:D" (p. 80)
Most importantly,
Gebhard (1971) comments on the difficulty of delimiting “prostitution” in cross-cultural perspective: "[COLOR=rgb(226, 80, 65)]Gift giving or even cash payment for sexual intercourse cannot be used as criteria to define prostitution, for these occur in courtship or even in marital situations** (pp. 257-58). Junod*s (1962) description of the wedding night of a South African Thonga couple provides an extreme example of gift giving in marriage: “The first night when she sleeps in the hut with her husband, she may refuse to allow him his conjugal rights. The bridegroom then goes to his father and asks him what he ought to do under the circumstances. The father says: ‘Give her sixpence or a shilling.’ Then she consents!** (p. 113).”"
As the honorable elders said, and many here blindly refute: " You pay, either directly or indirectly.":D:D:D
