Hey Talkers,

Who works in the investment industry here?.I got a cousin who is interested in becoming a financial analyst.
Who are the leading employers in this field and what is the salary range.

In any industry, be it in medicine, law, aviation, engineering, financial analysis, one must always start from the bottom. The bottom is relative though. Britam, Transcentury, Safaricom, Centum, NSE and any financial institution often requires financial analysts. However, there is a catch here. If you want to be respected as a financial analyst, and to be recognized as an analyst across the borders, you must undertake an examination called CFA. Its the worlds most recognized qualification. Those who have done CFA say that its the hardest examination than anything else. Its costly and very hard as well. It requires about 300 hours of serious studying. Anybody that has CFA section 2 and above is eligible for employment by Australian, Dubai, American and European institutions. Very few kenyans have this qualification. A former colleague did that CFA and had done some CPA stuff. he was offered a job opportunity at Britam in 2014 with a starting salary of 335k per month.

He is already doing CFA at level 1 now.

300 hours of studying is not much. Thats 20 hours a week for 15 weeks ( 4 months). Hio si kitu.

Let him look for work in the proliferating private equity funds and impact investment firms that have set Base in nrb. I work in that field and the pay for analysts is good.

Was he/she at entry leve at the time of employement,how many years of experience if not.Na mimi najua watu kadhaa wako na hiyo certification.Is it the same course that Actuarial science guys are going for?

no, it wasnt entry position. the guy already had 5 years experience
