Talkers, your advice needed. When a reckless driver hits your car and chooses not to compensate you but rather insists that his insurance will sort you out. Once I have the police accident abstract what are the steps i need to follow so that his insurance pays and incase the insurance takes me in circles how i follow up with the driver. He has been found responsible of carelessness by the police
Get a lawyer…
What’s the extent of the damage? You might end up paying more for following up than repairing it yourself
I estimate the damage to cost approximately 25k if i take it to my local mechanic
Do i get the lawyer first or i listen to what the insurance says first?
Uko comprehensive?
I once hit an xtrail in nyeri na nikakataa kulipa. Gari zikapelekwa station. I notified my insurance broker.
Mimi niliitiwa gari nairobi kama imetengenezwa. How, where, bow much, my insurance broker took care of all that.
Lesson: a reliable broker is vital. Incase you need one, enda pale UAP ya Roysambu uongee na Nancy/mungai (silverguard).
If you have a comprehensive cover…once someone hits you take pictures of the scene and his insurance details…make sure ungoje mpaka police wakuje to make the report…Then your insurance people will compensate you and follow up the other claim…it’s not you to follow up with the other company…I’ve once removed a sticker forcefully from a bus that hit me na wakataka kuhepa and stayed on the scene for an hour till police showed up…though the bus was long gone…caused jam mpaka my report was taken…Then my insurance came to tow the car…and left it at that
Yeah niko comprehensive. Is dealing with the broker easier than dealing with the insurance company directly?
What is their rate for a comprehensive policy
It depends with the company. Mostly it’s between 5 and 8% of the value of the vehicle annual premium. There is additional amount if you want excess protection
I though you indicated that the insurance guys were taking you round in circles…some insurance companies will dilly dally hoping you will get frustrated and decide to do the repairs. Me think the guy who sold you the policy should give you directions…
