Quitting Alcohol and all stupid money wasting things

OP first, you are already fuaked. Why? You downgrade alcohol unakunywa keg/makali ukisota. That is a total disaster. Personally, I only drink beer(Pilsner/Whitecap/Tusker/Guiness) and for a good reason. That’s the only type of alcohol I can drink responsibly. Anything cheaper and you become an alcoholic. Anything more expensive and you blow your money and potentially become an alcoholic ukianza kubeba mizinga home. 4-6 beers on a Saturday night out will do.

Ukikunywa wine, expensive liquor, or keg and makalis you will inevitably become a DDO.

Avoid that leta roundi shit , kila mtu alijileta hapo aji nunulie !

You probably got me wrong. I used to drink KEG and makali katambo. Not anymore .

There is something like this?

I opened a saving account in K-Unity sacco. I save every start of the month

mimi nikiingia local nameza tusker but naweka mzinga ya Hunters choice kwa meza ya wananchi ukitaka unapiga tot .

Where is your sister working right now? Can she afford the alcohol you wasted on her graduation?

Yep with reputable companies like ICEA Lion and Old Mutual , you wont believe how fast the years fly by !

Really nigga? There is time for everything under the sun, including celebrating. You are one of those buzz kills who ruin the mood of a party. Can’t the guy celebrate his sister’s accomplishment in peace? Better still, is he a fortune teller ajue how life will turn out for her?? He did what every good sibling would do. I would have done the same.

Regardless of how the sister turned out, the guy had no way of knowing the future. So, it only makes sense to celebrate the present. Lets assume hakupata job. At the time of the party, the guy could not have known that. So you can’t really judge him even if his sisters fortunes didn’t turn out as expected because he can’t predict the future. He did the best he could with what he had.

I will give you free game - man to man. Nobody taught me this but I learned by observing my uncles and cousins.

The type of alcoholic drink a person chooses is extremely important. I’m 30 now. Some of my uncles are pushing their 50s a few years to retirement. I have watched these guys during their entire productive lives.

The group that has stuck to beer has faired very well over the years. The guys still work for the same organizations that hired them 20+ years ago, at higher positions. Basically, they were able to drink responsibly enough not to get fired.

On the other hand, the group that drinks anything depending on how full the pockets are has faired badly over the 20+ years. They couldn’t hold on to jobs due to alcoholism.

The main problem of not having a standard, or having a very low standard (makali tots/quarters etc) is that the potential of being a DDO is very high.

If you have a very low standard, as soon as you get Ksh 100 you can afford alcohol. If you don’t have a standard, you also become an alcoholic because on good days you drink single malts and on bad days you drink quarters and 1/8ths. Either way (low standard or no standard), you have the opportunity to drink almost daily.

Kuna mtu ameniambia niwache makali itabidi

I started this year well, made it through the first two months without touching a drop…but I’ve been backsliding hard this month. It is very hard to be a teetotaller in Nairobi. I don’t know if it’s the social pressure or what. But people here have normalized binge drinking and alcoholism.

The main reason why its hard to be a teetotaler in Nairobi is because that’s the only form of leisure most adults can afford. If you are rich, you will do just fine swimming, golfing, biking, hiking, horse riding, tennis, travel (this is a big one) etc because you have both time and money. The average Nairobian has 5k and his free time is at night. There aren’t many things he can do with that money and that time.

Rich people in Nairobi still drink like crazy. However, it is a lot easier to be a teetotaler if you are wealthy than if you are not because you have a wide selection of activities that you can afford to do unlike the peasant majority.

Eatu husema ukiacha pombe ati ooo hakunaga tofauti pesa bado utatumia. That’s a BIG LIE. I swear since I quit drinking I never have problems with my bills at the minimum. Hadi nikaanza ujeuri ya kulipa rent few months in advance tunapishana na landlords kama co-owners wa ploti. Sioni next year ikiisha kama nalipa mtu nyumba ndio nilalishe makagary. Quitting also means you have a clear head ALL WEEKEND. Yani 48 hours free with full clarity to plan your future. There’s nothing you can’t achieve if you spend at least 48 hours every week thinking about it with a clear head. Believe me.

IMO, this is a stupid question. To answer you, amepata kazi, she’s not earning that much obviously , she is trying to build her career.

I risk sounding repetitive in this post but bear with me because I am passionate about this subject and I have seen the effects in real time.

Ukianza makali, the effects are not immediate, so you will not know as things worsen.

Na makali, you can get wasted for 100 bob. That means every day is a holiday. That’s how you become a DDO.

The first week you will be okay. In 5 years you will be a totally different person.

You will be indistinguishable from those other makali drinkers you look down on today.

It is a gradual process.
