Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara was arrested on Thursday afternoon from her home in the town.

In a dramatic event livestreamed on her Facebook account, dozens of officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), backed by local police, raided her Maraigushu home in Naivasha.

She was later driven to Naivasha Police Station, where she was briefly booked. Police said the MP was expected to be transported to DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road in Nairobi for further interrogation.

Kihara protested her arrest, saying she could not assist police in investigating a matter she knew nothing about.

“They say they believe I have information that can help them. I can’t do that,” she said.

“Dozens of police officers are currently at my Maraigushu home to arrest me,” she wrote on Facebook.

The arrest came shortly after she had held a meeting with sand harvesters from Mai Mahiu.

It also follows her failure to honour DCI summons over remarks she allegedly made that were deemed to undermine the authority of an unnamed public officer.

In a notice signed by senior DCI officer George Lenny Kisaka, the DCI directed Kihara to appear at its headquarters on Monday, July 14, at 10:30 a.m.

“I hereby compel you, Hon. Jayne Njeri Wanjiku Kihara, MP for Naivasha Constituency… to appear before me… without fail,” read the notice shared by the MP on Sunday.

“Failure to comply with the requisition constitutes an offence liable to prosecution.”

The summons were issued on Friday following a probe into the alleged dissemination of “inciteful or disruptive content” on her social media.

In response, Kihara wrote on Facebook: “The days of intimidating leaders using the criminal justice system are long gone.

Summoning me to DCI headquarters tomorrow will not change Kenyans’ resolve, because this is not about Jayne Kihara but about our country, Kenya.”

Kihara has previously accused the government of using state security agencies to frustrate allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, especially after her security detail was allegedly withdrawn in May.

Following the incident, she lamented that she felt “vulnerable and naked” and warned that any harm that might befall her should be blamed on the Head of State.

Former Vice President and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka condemned the arrest.

“This is clear political persecution. We will get Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara out!” he declared.

Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara has warned President William Ruto against his close relationship with Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah.

Kihara was speaking outside the Milimani Law Courts on Friday, July 18, after she was granted a personal bond of Ksh50,000, having appeared in court in connection with charges related to incitement.

“I would like to tell President Ruto, with Ichung’wah as your friend, you don’t need another enemy. With Ichung’wah around you, you need no other enemy because he is the one wronging Kenyans. He abused me, and told me to behave my age,” Kihara said.

Kihara, who was arrested on Thursday evening, has remained adamant that she will stay strong in her fight for a better Kenya.

She reiterated that no amount of torture or frustration would stop her from speaking the truth.

“I will continue to fight for Kenyans and my people, even if they put me behind bars for weeks, I am prepared, the only thing I am left to do is fight. If we have to stay in cells to get justice, then we will do it,” the MP said.

“I have reached the climax of my politics by sleeping in the cells. I have never even been booked in the OB before. Anyone who thinks they will silence me should not bother,” she continued.

The MP did not enter a plea, as the court was yet to rule on whether the charges filed against her are legally valid.

The case is scheduled for mention on Tuesday, July 29, when the court will deliver its decision on whether the charges meet the required legal standard.

In a charge sheet shared by lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, Kihara was accused of making a statement on July 8 while in Nairobi during a public gathering with the alleged intent to provoke a breach of peace.

In the quoted speech, Kihara had alleged that goons were transported to Naivasha with NYS buses and raided the constituency during the protests. She also warned the president against allegedly fighting the youth.

Kihara was arrested on Thursday by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who forcefully stormed her home. According to reports, the lawmaker was arrested after she failed to respond to a DCI summons related to accusations of incitement.

Kihara the man was never militant like this gwomans. She inherited hundreds of millions from him in cash and property when he died, and she mostly uses it for nonsense like buying machettes for mungiki to kill jaruos, kales and luhyas like she did in 2007, and generally just being stupid. The other day she facilitated jsks to take over land in naivasha, and now she’s pretending that he’s the worst thing to ever happen. Siasa ni ngumu.

Drama ensued in Naivasha on Saturday, August 9, after police officers reportedly stopped a meeting from taking place at Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara’s home.

The vocal legislator, in a brief statement, revealed that a contingent of police officers had been dispatched outside her Maraigushu home to prevent her visitors from accessing the residence.

Kihara criticised the police for allegedly misdirecting their efforts by targeting her instead of dealing with serious criminal matters such as child sex trafficking in the Mai Mahiu area of Naivasha.

According to her, the move to block visitors from accessing her premises was politically motivated, particularly because she is a woman.

“Dozens of police officers blocked the road to my Maraigushu home to prevent my visitors from accessing my home,” the lawmaker lamented.

She went on to add: “Instead of mobilising police officers to go and arrest perpetrators of child sex trafficking in Mai-Mahiu, you’re mobilising them to fight one harmless woman.”

The legislator revealed that despite attempts to reach out to the area OCPD, the police boss was reluctant to address her grievances. “There are roadblocks all over, more than three of them,” she said.

Speaking to members of the press outside her home, Kihara asserted that she would not be intimidated, vowing to continue her criticism of President William Ruto’s administration.

Kihara further accused the police of allegedly overstepping their mandate by attempting to interfere with her private life, adding that such actions contravened the Constitution.

The latest incident comes barely a month after police officers raided her home, arrested her, and escorted her to Nairobi, where she was subsequently arraigned in court.

She was arraigned on July 19 at the Milimani Law Courts, charged with offensive conduct, which the prosecution said was likely to cause a breach of the peace.

She was later released on Ksh50,000 bail. However, her plea to have the case dismissed was unsuccessful, as the judge ruled that the case met the constitutional threshold.

This is why Alshabab, cattle rustlers and child sex traffickers operate in broad daylight.
The police has been a political tool.
