There is a difference between submissiveness and ignorance; this was the latter. BTW, I blame her, because she could see the fellow was incapable of making decisions, and she was busy deciding for him. Do not expect a boy to do a man’s job. If he can’t take charge, he can’t marry you–don’t force things.

But it was time and she couldn’t find anyone else. Not all women are strong like me to dump incapable men. Most will carry them on their back until it’s no longer tenable.

She was probably too naive to know that there’s no such thing as “it’s time”, and I guess she didn’t share her doubts with the mum for fear she would be told to call it off, or her friends would talk–people will talk anyway. It’s time only when you are both ready, and planning properly won’t kill either of you.
Truth is, if he’s not ready, he’s not ready, you’ll be disappointed and ashamed to welcome a foolish and spineless man to your home. The world won’t end just because you’ve postponed a wedding. That’s a one day celebration, then you have life after that. It’ll be worse to get into a marriage that’s a farce from the start.
