A pastor at a small
church (identity withheld)
in Bomet County
survived mob justice
after he was caught
peeping at women and filming
them as they took a bath at a local
river.
A herdsman who was passing a few
metres from the public bathing place
on the shores of River Nyangores
stumbled on the man of God, peering
at the bathing women as he filmed
and took pictures of them.
The peeping Tom took off immediately
the herder raised alarm.
Unluckily for him, the herdsman
and members of the public who were
in pursuit caught up with him and
reigned kicks and blows on him for invading
the women’s privacy.
“Some of your sermons against
immorality are fresh in our minds, yet
here you are filming naked woman as
they bathe and sun themselves. You
are setting a bad example,” hissed one
of the locals as they beat the pastor.
Efforts by the peeping tom to wig-
Close shave for pastor found peeping at women as they bathe in river
gle himself from the sticky situation
bore no fruits.
The kicks, blows and slaps kept
coming, even as he tried to explain
that he had accidentally stumbled
upon the women’s bathing area as he
looked for a better place to answer a
call of nature.
“I had gone in the bush to relieve
myself, but had not gotten a better
place to do so. I found myself into the
forbidden territory by accident,” explained
the pastor, but the angry mob
would hear none of it.
Naked village women
“This must be a wolf in sheep
clothing, preying on our women,”
screamed yet another resident. “You
buy a new phone and the best way to
test its camera and quality of pictures
is by filming naked village women as
they take a bath?” scoffed another local,
after the pastor claimed he was
testing how good the camera of his
new phone was.
Further attempts by the pastor to
beg for mercy from the angry crowd
fell on deaf ears.
“The herdsman did not clearly see
what I was doing. I was in a squatting
position, relieving myself as I tested
the camera of my new phone,” cried
the pastor.
After being forced to unlock his
phone, the incriminating evidence
found in his gallery proved him guilty.
“What do you take us for? Fools?
What are these videos and pictures of
naked women doing in your phone, if,
indeed, you had gone to answer long
call of nature in the bush?” barked yet
another local.
Another man questioned his credibility
as a pastor. “We doubt you are a
genuine preacher. You are the kinds of
people who give other good pastors a
bad name,” the local said.
Had it not been the intervention
of an administration policemen who
whisked him away, he would have
been dead meat.
The man of God now walks around
with a dubious reputation and the
stigma of a fake and immoral pastor,
which has seen him shunned by his
peers. Surprisingly, worshippers still
flock his church.
