The National Assembly quietly abandoned several high-profile probes into suspected financial irregularities, dimming prospects of recovering at least KSh: 115 Billion in potentially lost public funds.
Investigations MPs Abandoned Include:
- Sh21 billion in fictitious claims at the Social Health Authority (SHA, formerly NHIF).
- Sh15 billion in doubtful VAT exemptions granted to 14 local manufacturing companies.
- Sh12 billion involving the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) in questionable treasury bonds.
- Multibillion-shilling banknotes printing deal awarded to a German firm (Giesecke+Devriet Currency Technologies GmbH).
- Dubious consultancy agreement for the E-Citizen platform (handling massive daily government payments, signed without the Attorney-General’s approval).
- Questionable dealings at Kenya Bureau of Standards (KeBS), including a multibillion PVOC tender and Sh420 million lost to forgery.
The MPs on the Finance and National Planning Committee reported frustrations from the National Treasury and top executive officials.
This is happening at a time when Kenyans are being overtaxed to pay illegal loans, and are being charged toll fees to use a road which could have been built simply by tracing looted funds.
