Does NHIF really help, as they preach everywhere even in churches.
I had a case last week when my wife went to give birth . She had a CS and stayed there for 3 days. She was at Jacaranda Maternity on your way to Kahawa west.
When i went to pick her jana, i was slapped with a hooping 60k bill. On inquiring about NIHF , first they told me, since i had not paid for this month haitanisaidia. That when they triggered the devil in me, niliziusha ,told them the month isn’t over yet and still i’ve been paying for the service since 2010 ,hii mwezi ndio imeleta shida.
After arguing for long ,that shit paid only 6k. Hiyo card i gave it to mama, told her akitaka kuuilipa alipe and after all i’ve never used it myself.
I suppose the best thing is to visit their office or their desk in the huduma center and find out what you pay for entitled you to. Don’t get mad without education. By the way the person saying you were not up to date for not having paid this month just wanted to take your cash.

Personally my NHIF card paid ALL expenses for the first lady wakati alijifungua na ilikuwa through CS and that was March this year. Maybe its something to do with the hosy that u choose (yangu ilikuwa private ya catholic) but venye tu mzee @gashwin amesema hapo juu, itabidi muende huduma centre ama nhif branch near you msaidiwe. what i understand from this is that you were late to pay your dues for this month, i think inakuanga by date 5th from hapo kuna penalties for late payments, for me it has worked been paying on time lakini mama alinienjoy sana, mimi nalipia hii kitu then yeye anaenda anachukua some “insuarance” called linda mama hio ndio ilitumika kulipia CS
Some of the services require pre-authorization from NHIF.What you do is go to the hospital and ask them to put in a request on the NHIF system then wait for the approval which takes 2-4 days but Incase you want to fastrack that you can go to NHIF offices and plead your case.
Had emergency CS and NHIF paid. probably the hospital refused to work with NHIF despite it being accredited. our work medical cover just blacklisted Agakhan hospital coz it refused to remove NHIF rebates. Just be careful next time on your choice of hospital. They might refuse to remove the rebate from your bill but still claim it back from NHIF. issa scam.

Issa scam. Very useless card. Unaenda hosi with serious abdominal pain and there is need for a scan. Jinga znakushow NHIF hailipii izo. You wonder ka ni homa unafaa kuugua ndio uende hosi.
Alaf most of the estate/village medical centres where the card is accepted are full of quacks. I am just one dissapointed by the health sector in Kenya. Ka huna mbesha za insurance please use public hospitals ju hawa quacks wataua watu.
Depends with the hospital but in my opinion nhif is engaging in a scam. They should cover everyone equally and make contribution equal. Mostly peoe who are employed pay very high returns for minimal or non existent service. Also hospitals engage in a lot of treachery with nhif staff
