Osotsi Claims Govt Surveillance on Babu, Sifuna After Near-Death Ordeal

Vihiga Senator Geofrey Osotsi has alleged that his life is in danger, claiming that government-linked surveillance targeted him and fellow Linda Mwananchi leaders before the attack in Kisumu.
Speaking for the first time after being discharged from the hospital on Saturday, April 11, Osotsi recounted the ordeal that left him admitted for a week following what he described as a coordinated assault at a coffee shop.

The senator claimed that the incident escalated when one of the attackers allegedly drew a firearm and threatened to assassinate him during the confrontation.
“I had my aide with me, and it was at the time when I had sent him to withdraw some money for me, a few metres away. That is when a group of men came to me, calling me Senator, and soon started beating me,” Osotsi said.
Being charged with “ROBBERY WITH VIOLENCE” is a serious crime and the politician who hired you and provided you with hunter, a very cheap alcohol, won’t be attending your court cases.
“When I fell, some continued beating me with one of them, pulling a gun on me. However, I would want to clarify that it was not a love triangle as some paid bloggers were claiming. I have my wife here, and if at all I were to be in a love affair, why would I do it in the open?” he added.
Osotsi further alleged that certain leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi movement are under constant surveillance, accusing key senior officials within the Interior Ministry of orchestrating the scheme.
He linked Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo to both the alleged trailing of leaders and the attack, claiming the ministry had been turned into what he termed a “goon empire".
On his part, Omollo sought to distance himself from the incident, urging the police to act swiftly and impartially in bringing those responsible to justice.
“For sure, what happened to Osotsi was unfortunate. Any leader who uses goons must be held accountable and face the full force of the law,” Omollo said on Friday.

At the same time, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen dismissed claims linking his ministry to the rise of goonism, terming them as attempts by government critics to discredit both the ministry and the administration. He called on Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to ensure the immediate arrest of all individuals involved, particularly those allegedly affiliated with opposition leaders.
Nonetheless, the Vihiga Senator also raised concerns over how details of the incident circulated online before his own media team had been informed, suggesting that individuals close to him may have been used to track his movements.
“You are not going to get Western Kenya using goons despite having recruited goons in the whole of Nyanza. We have so many insecurity cases in the region, and I want to tell President William Ruto that you are not going to get Western Kenya using goons,” he stated.
“Why must I be attacked in Kisumu? Why not any other town? They simply want to sell a narrative that the Western people and the Nyanza people are at war, which is not the case,” Osotsi posed.
Despite the incident, Osotsi maintained that the Linda Mwananchi leaders will proceed with their planned tour from Nakuru to Kisumu on April 19, insisting they remain undeterred.
