One thing I’ve noticed with dim eyes ni their wasiwasi set ups. It’s not a question of education or work ethic, sijui how to explain. Mchanue about unexpected costs.
I’m beyond my depth kwa maritime business, but a few layman’s calculations from the airline biz:
A JamboJet 72-seater Dash-400 — they charge about 10k for a one-way ticket; meaning they rake in about 700k revenue from one single flight, say NRB-MSA. Say the plane makes 2 round trips a day. That one plane would bring in about 3M per day.
Now, I know a ship has lower operations costs, if we just talk about the transport from point A to point B. But then add accommodation, meals, entertainment, and the staff needed to make these things happen; i.e. stuff that JamboJet doesn’t provide. I don’t think 1M revenue in 3 days would cut it.

Najua unaongelea small vessels of 100 elders ready to perish into a watery grave lakini ships, unlike land vehicles, drink much more fuel. Just google differences of fluid dynamics kwa maji na barabara. And diesel just got more expe

Stop basing calculations on 1500 person cruise lines. I’m taking a 120 person cruise line. Two 5-6k kw engines, 3 other engines with 2k kw. Total consumption is 500 liters per hour. 16 hours cruse time 8000 liters. Times 3 days 24k liters max. Times ksh. 120 per liter ( 100 in tz) = ksh 288k .( 240k in TZ fuel).
Mombasa to Comoros easy.
Even at a full 1000 liters per hour, I’ll be 560 in fuel costs.
There’s a trick in my calculations. Let’s see if you spot it.
