Some cultures such as where I married from demand that lobola comes from the clan/community …you as the husband to be and your immediate family are forbidden from contributing to your own dowry…the ‘beasts’ are usually sourced from the clan…I guess mheshimiwa is marrying from such a community.
what extent? i guess he tried to fundraise from his friends but among those he thought are his friend are some jealous people hence the leakage to media. who audited the money to know it is two millions?
Actually from my community your dowry as a man is supposed to be paid by your father. How people started calling for harambees to pay their dowries still puzzles me!
This dowry culture is a pain. It will deter so many youngies from ever getting married. Repurcussions are already evident amongst us, the single parents and thousands of illegitimate kids.

Nothing wrong fundraising for your mp…apart from Nairobi and central a typical mp is a hustler making very little money outside his 600k salo…I used to feel sorry for a number of mps from the former western province…am sure kambaland,with the likes of muthama and mwau out, is no different…ask yourself why Ruto has easily put most of them in his pockets
