Mkisii mijinga Nyambane iliangusha, akaigeuza feminist station ladies only radio station with stupid accent. I was young boy . Rest easy Metro FM.

Kenya has had a love-hate relationship with reggae since the 1980s when Moi banned it.
It speaks of empowerment and freedom, something which the establishment dreads.
It was bound to die a natural death, plus it appeals to a section of population which is considered by corporates as unbankable.

Metro FM wasn’t the first FM station in Kenya. However it was the first 24/7 reggae station in the whole of Africa. It was a bold move since, prior to that, reggae fans were not highly rated by corporates. However, reggae had by far the most listeners in Africa. Lucky Dube was the single most requested artist on KBC radio.
Since then reggae has ruled, and the most ranking artists to tour the country, even in previously ‘upmarket crowd only’ venues have been…reggae artists.
Nobody can stop reggae (Lucky Philip Dube).
