Evans Agumba Oriato, a compliance officer at the KRA Kisumu office, has been charged in court for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe from a secondary school to file nil tax returns for the years 2016 to 2020.
He is accused of demanding Ksh 1 million to “resolve outstanding tax irregularities,” with the school reportedly paying Ksh 500,000 as a down payment via bank transfer, and agreeing to clear the balance upon completion.
Oriato denied the charges and was released on a Ksh. 500,000 bond, with an equal surety.
