Sonko Rescues Andrew Kibe From Goons Attacking Him at Nairobi Restaurant

Mike Sonko held off goons that had stormed into a restaurant along Ngong Road to attack blogger Andrew Kibe.
A video the former Nairobi Governor shared of the incident on Monday showed dozens of youth who claimed that they had caught wind of the interview through social media channels.
The goons subsequently interrupted the interview and reportedly wanted to take Kibe out of the joint.
The seven-minute clip showed Sonko, dressed in Gucci sweater, trying to negotiate with them and subsequently get them out of the venue.
The two social media stars were meeting for the first time since their feud in 2023 which surrounded Sonko’s disapproval of Kibe’s oft-controversial topics.
It is believed that the goons had gone to the restaurant to attack Kibe over his controversial YouTube show, which was being aired live on Sonko’s Twitter account.
The resultant clip showed that goons, believed to be from Kibera, expressed vulgar language which could not be printed by the blogger.
Our attempts to reach Kibe, through his Yafreeka Company, were futile since our calls went unanswered.
The blogger has remained a controversial figure on social media since leaving mainstream media in 2020 where he worked as a morning show host at Kiss FM.

In November 2020, he founded his own media station Rogue Radio, five months after quitting Radio Africa Group.
At the time, Kibe told Kenyans.co.ke that the station would operate for 24 hours a day playing music and creating content before expanding into news.
"It is the next real thing, not the next big thing. For years, we have had people terming their projects as the ‘next big thing’.
“We want to talk about the truth and offer artists a chance to play their music, which mainstream media does not want to play,” he stated at the time.
