Kenya Airways flew 28,000 passengers on the Nairobi-New York route in the period ending December 31.
According to Central Bank governor Patrick Njoroge, the airline is targeting 99,000 passengers before the end of 2019.
The KQ planes carried 234 passengers, with 30 at the premium world class and 204 in the economy section.
During the launch of the route, KQ CEO announced that Economy class fliers would pay Sh89,000 both ways and business class customers would pay Sh257,634 for a return ticket subject to government approval.
This means that it has made at least 120 trips. Or 60 trips from each destination, cosidering that it is having one flight a day from Nariobi and another one from New York, two months can achieve that.
The fares are not really the main issue here since eventually they must adhere to market forces. What really surprised me is that the numbers are there to achieve critical mass / sustainability.
The numbers are fabricated, the route isnt as profitable as initially envisaged.

Issa lie… 28000pax even wale wako pale IL bisil will take this with a ton of salt…
@Okiya fares will be standardised to market rates, but si gava always comes to the rescue to keep them afloat hata kama ni kubuy fuel pekee. Pilots wakule tu.
Nothing better than success over a mountain of doomsayers. KQ all the way. I wonder why those we say they fly “Ethiopian” are mad with this good news.:D:D:D:D:D:D
KQ is on the up…up…up…This year a lot of surprises are on the way. JKIA, fleet expansion, new routes and new partners. Goodnight
Ethiopian keep an updated fleet. I fly frequently with them around Africa; Dreamliners na Airbus A350 ni common sana. They even got the latest 737’s for short routes kama Nairobi-Addis. I think they sell their old planes.
I still prefer our KQ with Embrier 190’s, 2x2 seats kama business class.
