At least four out of 150 schools will by close of the week receive free laptops under the Digital Literacy Programme in a pilot process that kicked off Tuesday. Class One pupils at Ilbissil Boarding Primary School, Kajiado were the first to receive the laptops. Katheka AIC in Machakos, Sharki Primary in Mombasa and Hill Primary in Eldoret are set to receive the devices Thursday and Friday. ICT secretary Joe Mucheru said that 10,000 devices had been released for the pilot expected to run until end of next month.

“Our transition rate has been very slow because pupils opt for academies with ICT infrastructure. With the digital literacy programme, this will now be a thing of the past,” Ilbissil head-teacher Nicholas Muriu said in a statement. It is a Sh17 billion project.

Their timing is off, especially since the schools are closing for April holidays.

Yes, that’s true but 5 university led consortium’s were late in importing and assembling the laptops. Its catch up time, the national rollout will be more challenging as its supposed to be done in full this year.

I have a Kindle and that gadget is awesome. Tailor made for reading, long lasting battery, zero maintenance and very simple to use. Kindle should have been the way to go, not laptops

Hiyo picha hao ni watu wazima wa class 7

That’s also true but debatable on the full application between a laptop vs tablet. Anyway its a start and better than nothing.

some people will always find a problem with the sauce…it is either too salty, spicy, cold, hot, too late, served in plastic instead of metal plates…

Kwani zingine ni gari?
Let me rephrase, kwani kuna any similar device that requires maintenance?

Served as received

he…he…but i have learned to take praise and criticism in equal measure.

Tunajua jubilee has a perfect record as you pretend to see.

i don’t pretend…i see what is there to see…

njumbilee hoiyeee!

Slowly but surely, the promises Jubilee made are being fulfilled. Those that say that it is late do not realize that the power supply was priority number one. Good job!

Its funny this things come just as we are about to go vote. Promise the people something then give it to them jus shortly before you go to the polls. Clearly Kamwana is reading Frank Underwood’s script

because sincerely you are not conversant with the problems that bedeviled the initial procurement?

who goes off to build a house yet he hasn’t calculated the costs?

to quote you, “some people will always find a problem with the sauce…it is either too salty, spicy, cold, hot, too late, served in plastic instead of metal plates…”

In the end its good we are discussing Jubilee manifesto and what has and hasn’t been done - a first in Kenya. In my opinion the court may have delayed this pledge by 3 years but they saved us all from a questionable bid.
