The line is critical since it will evacuate power from the L.Turkana Wind Power to Suswa and the national grid. C.S Keter has finally managed to get a breakthrough on the power lines route after discussion with Samburu elder and people.

Meanwhile Moi na Saitoti walitufira na turkwel isokei
Yes walikula wakashiba wote and add biwott to that list coz he even picked the french contractor who build him a home in Keiyo on top a cliff that looks like a scene from a James Bond movie. That said Turkwel hydro plant has proved itself overtime as the most consistent power project in the country. Power isn’t a problem in Eldoret and north rift region thanks to its power. The only concern is that ironically according to me is that it only produces 106 MW of power despite its grand size.
Anyway its 2016 and finally power has reached the bandit area but very beautiful place called Baragoi in Samburu
Looking at the developments and projects in the pipeline,I will pity myself if I do not live long enough to see them. The next 3-10 years will be so exciting for peaple with an interest to economic and infrastructural development.
But as a country we need to tackle issues of land and national projects.Power transmission line projects are facing huge challanges due to this. The contractual and economic losses due to delays in project completion as a result of individuals and communities blocking national projects is unimaginable.Atleast SGR are getting it easy with NLC and the executive giving it a priority.
True that, high voltage lines are tall enough and safe that it allows commercial activities to proceed on the land below like farming. So it makes no sense for people to demand +1 million for the same land which is X10 or X20 the land price of the same piece of land. This high voltage land will transfer the 350 MW from Turkana wind and more from Ethiopia to feel the load power deficit currently experienced following industrial and economic growth in the country. Lastly Jubilee is on hyperdrive commissioning infrastructure projects across the country that will transform the country forever. The private sector is following government lead and starting projects as well. This reminds me of a few years back the same critics were on President Kibaki case and are now fighting to name every projects as his.
Meanwhile even the laptop have arrived in Baragoi once the power was switched on.
Baragoi Integrated Primary School
And the issue of the northerners opportunistically building manyattas along the corridor…guess that is what you say the CS sorted out?
Tricky move. :D:D:D
But it delays projects. How did they know of the project in advance?
Yes, as long as a manyatta is on the land even if its not in use then the claim is 1 million, mind you the land still remains with the owner. Greed and extortion is too much and the same Kenyan’s will complain that projects are expensive.
Correction…300 MW from LTWP and possibly another future 300MW in phase 2.The Ethiopian connection construction is already underway, a 500km+ of HVDC line under construction to Suswa.New HVDC technology shall be a reality to the eastern africa community.
Thanks, now explain HVDC.
Believe you me Kenyans are opportunistically smart.Go to Pokot, Turkana,Nyeri,Kisii,Garsen etc and everywhere cocks(male chicken) are all 700/=+ from the other days 400/=
Google, but basically the power will be transmitted as DC(as in battery cells) and not AC as we commonly know it.
I wanted to use you as my google with possible local commentary of any experiance with them. Anyway i’m glad this new technology has reached here.
A high-voltage, direct current (HVDC) electric power transmission system (also called a power super highway or anelectrical super highway)[1][2][3][4] uses direct current for the bulk transmission of electrical power, in contrast with the more common alternating current (AC) systems.[5] For long-distance transmission, HVDC systems may be less expensive and suffer lower electrical losses. For underwater power cables, HVDC avoids the heavy currents required to charge and discharge the cable capacitance each cycle. For shorter distances, the higher cost of DC conversion equipment compared to an AC system may still be justified, due to other benefits of direct current links. HVDC allows power transmission between unsynchronized AC transmission systems. Since the power flow through an HVDC link can be controlled independently of the phase angle between source and load, it can stabilize a network against disturbances due to rapid changes in power. HVDC also allows transfer of power between grid systems running at different frequencies, such as 50 Hz and 60 Hz. This improves the stability and economy of each grid, by allowing exchange of power between incompatible networks. The modern form of HVDC transmission uses technology developed extensively in the 1930s in Sweden (ASEA) and inGermany. Early commercial installations included one in the Soviet Union in 1951 between Moscow and Kashira, and a 100 kV, 20 MW system between Gotland and mainland Sweden in 1954.[6] The longest HVDC link in the world is the Rio Madeira link in Brazil, which consists of two bipoles of ±600 kV, 3150 MW each, connecting Porto Velho in the state ofRondônia to the São Paulo area. The length of the DC line is 2,375 km (1,476 mi).[7]
Yes
Yes,now that technology will be applied in the Ethiopia-Kenya interconnector.A 2000MW capacity line that will form part of the Eastern Africa Power Corridor ftom Ethiopia to TZ and Zambia thus facillitate power trade. But most of all it will boost and reinforce the Kenyan power base.
Has Kenya ever been this vibrant and progressive? The above photos depict a CS doing the rounds, and they are no less exciting than those of PORK and DPORK.
HVDC = High Voltage Direct Current. The power is transmitted in direct current (like car battery, flashlight cells, solar pane) as it allows for more efficient transport over longer distances with less power loss. It is converted to AC close to destination.
