Wow that timeline makes sense. First time I ever saw or interacted a person or two removed from cartel affiliated people or did drugs from them was around that time. All the home cooked meth disappeared too - suddenly it was all crystal. 2009-2013ish, and heroin changed too. (I’m sober now for years but yeah)

I live in southern Arizona and crossed the border to Mexico frequently to buy cigarettes and other items, all legal by the way, and during the 2000 teens there was a noticeable increase in violent activity in the border towns of Naco and Aqua Prieta. There were shootings and the Mexican army was stationed for a while in these towns. Things then calmed down for a while. In the last couple of years things have gotten worse on the American side. Mexicans crossing the border have been creating havoc with crime in the area. I was in a traffic accident with a load car one evening. They turned into my van and t boned me. They took off and I chased them for a short distance until they pulled off the road and abandoned the car. The 5 guys in the car jumped out and ripped off the trunk lid to free 2 more guys from the trunk. Fake registration and insurance so I had to pay for damage to my van. Most recently my house was broken into. They threw all the food out of the refrigerator, ransacked everything and stole a laptop, jewelry, cash, and anything of value. My wife is a dispatcher with the Sheriff’s department and she has complained about the large increase in calls the last two years. Things have definitely gotten more dangerous here, but it seems like that’s happening everywhere.

  1. El Chapo was not the brains behind his operation. He was the face. 2) Truth about the gangs. I used to walk through the Tenderloin in SF at 5am. I’ve seen many turf wars. They’re subtle but happened. The Mexicans always kept their corners clean. The African Americans would sometimes take over. But they would disappear eventually.

Me being from Chicago. Sinaloa did not target black gangs in Chicago. Sinaloa used both Hispanic and black gangs for their advantage. Also being from michoacan home of state of the CJNG boss as long as you don’t speak on them they will pretty much leave you alone.
