Jiji Refurbished Phones

What risks do I run in buying a refurbished phone huko Jiji guys? Jana my phone went kaput and I now have to look for a cheap (entry-level smartphone < 10Gs) one before my next windfall.

Most of the guys I get on Jiji selling refurbished phones seem to be operating from Luthuli and Tom Mboya Streets and that is by itself not so encouraging. Now, on the one hand, I don’t a want those cheap Chinese phones going by the brand names Tecno, Infinix, X-tigi, Itel… you get the drift. On the other, sitaki kurudi hapa na hekaya about how I bought a refurbished Galaxy A71s or M51 for 8Gs (believe me, ziko huko Jiji) only for the darn thing to die on me after 2 days, assuming sitapata ugali ndani when I get home.

I’ve bought a desktop PC and a couple of laptops huko before but I know next to nothing about the quality of phone refurbs. So I ask you veterans, are there any good ones or is tantamount to shooting myself in the foot? I could also use your suggestions on the best Nokia, Samsung or other non-Chinese brands (except Xiaomi perhaps - I hear they’re good) budget smartphones.

Jiji phones are a curse toroka mbio mbaya sana bro. With 9k you can get a decent Nokia, Xiaomi phone pale Jumia.

Hizo refurbished phones aka “UK Used” usiguze hata na 10foot pole unless u want to play Russian roulette with your freedom…When CID pounce on you the only thing they will want to know is where you burried the body of the previous owner.

I would never advise you to go for a 2nd hand/ refurbished fone. Ushaambiwa apo juu. Inaweza kuwa na kesi attached to it.

You are better of buying a mulika mwizi than those phone, you don’t trust the source, my cousin was in shiet coz of such, he went to buy a used phone, he inserted his sim to confirm if it’s working properly, next them the cops start calling his contacts, kwa ufupi, that phone was stolen in parklands, by people who had guns and they took off with a Toyota fielder, so he was asked to produce the phone, the gun and the car

I made a stupid mistake and bought one of those tablets in Jiji - 64gb and 4gb ram at throw away price. When it was delivered, the tablet has no name even on the manual, it shows 128gb memory but properties (about phone) show 64gb and when you connect to a computer is reads 12gb! The phone is rooted and was previously connected to Ngamia wireless even though it was “brand new”. In short, I am waiting for a call from DCI. Dont buy these phones.

Never ever buy a used/refurbished phone in Kenya. Chukua Oppo A11 at that cost.

Poleni kwa masaibu mtakao visitiwa na Kinoti and his boys soon, if you haven’t already. I hadn’t considered this tbh, ahsanteni. Looks like I’ve dodged a friggin bullet.

Ingia Kilimall, search or click refurbished phones, filter by clicking “fulfilled by Kilimall”. Hapo utapata Huawei Mate 8, Samsung Galaxy Note 8,

A friend of a friend purchased Samsung Galaxy Mega from these ‘loans on items’ guys. When Kinoti’s guys finally caught up with him, they were asking where the body of the Judiciary employee is, because the family wanted to bury their kin. And that’s how he ended up in prison

Good idea. So, what sets these apart from the rest of the junk kinagaubaga?

Claims and return if not as indicated, Clean imei, clean esn.

Affordable big phones. For instance the Galaxy Note 8 is available at around 15k and the Huawei Mate 8 at 11K. You can even get the Mighty Huawei Mate 10 at 15,500/- if you have the patience to wait for the 3 weeks delivery time from their overseas sellers.

What brand new Xiaomi phone has the following as the bare minimum features?

  1. RAM - 2GB
  2. ROM - 32GB
  3. 4G LTE
  4. Dual SIM
  5. Android 9

And how are Samsung Galaxy A02 and A11?

Xiaomi Note 9A looks good. What are your thoughts?

Redmi 9a

Guy, you never, I mean NEVER, buy entry level Samsung phones! They are for those who buy phones because of the name of the manufacturer. The Redmi 9a is your best option.

I agree elder. Lots of people buy sham phones in the name of Samsung… I’ll try the 9A.
