We bid farewell to Atalaku “L’Emperor” Nono Mozuluku of Zaiko Langa Langa “Nkolo Mboka” who passed away in Paris , France on 10th January 2024 …
The artist suffered from high blood pressure which led to having a stroke.
His health quickly deteriorated, leading to his death.
In addition to being the Band’s “Atalaku” (Chanter) and playing the Maracas , he also helped in composing the various dance routines and melodies .
He had an electrifying Stage presence that would really charge Concert Audiences.
He was in the process of promoting his new album “Misisa” in Kinshasa, which included a remix of his old animated shouts sung in Zaiko.
The Indispensable Atalaku:
This “Atalaku” phenomenon has grown in importance to the point that there is hardly any Congolese music without the cries of the Atalaku.
Not only did it contribute to the success of Orchestras like **Choc Stars , Wenge Musica BCBG, Quartire Latin International and L’Anti Choc ** , the phenomenon has even gone International.
Nono and his accomplices thus created a new profession and provided work for many young people in Orchestras , such as :-
- Bill Clinton Kalonji , Roi David , Celeo Schram in Wenge Maison Mere of “Igwe” Werrason Ngiama Makanda.
- Roberto Wunda Enkokota , Tutu Calluji in Wenge Musica BCBG.
- Djuna Mumbafu Mathonet in Empire Bakuba of Kabasele Ya Mpanya Pepe Kalle.
- Ditutala in Choc Stars.
- Mukusa Ya Mbwa , Jean-Louis Manzungidi , Bivens Rappason , Océan Zibankulu , Dolce Parabolique Somono , CNN Alligator , Brigade Rwinga Sarbaty , Bébé Kerozene , Acide Wanzambi , Apocalypse Mobuka , Pépic Mbassu , Gesac Tshipoyi and Nene Ségolène Royale ( the only Female “Atalakwette” ) of Koffi Olomide’s Quartier Latin International.
The debate on WHO is the greatest “Atalaku” or “Atalakwette” remains open …
But Nono Monzuluku is clearly the pioneer pathfinder …
Here , in a rare appearance of both Wenge Musica BCBG and Zaiko Langa Langa “Nkolo Mboka” on the same stage , he challenged Atalaku Roberto Wunda Enkokota of Wenge Musica BCBG to a live “Battle of the Atalaku’s” …
