HP Laptop stuck on boot loop.

My HP laptop is stuck on a boot loop and gives me an error message as attached “no boot device”. Does anyone have an idea how to salvage my files on my dying hard disk drive? YouTube says I should just replace my hard drive and what causes this kind of a problem, virus attack or lack of hard drive space?

I would start by confirming that the drive is properly seated. Doesn’t hurt to use a screw driver to reseat and fasten the screws on the drive.

Then, use your original dvd or bootable flash drive to boot into recovery mode and use recovery options there. They include startup repair, system restore and system image recovery (only valid if you have an image backup).

You can also try hard drive diagnostics…how will depend on the make and model of your laptop.

Last shot will be to remove the drive and use an external enclosure to try and recover your files.

Other than that, always always at all times have a copy of your data backed up to an external.

Many thanks for your valuable advise. I will try the aforementioned steps, however, upon carrying out a “hard drive check”, my smart DST indicated as “Failed”.

Not sure if I still stand a chance of saving my data, but will give it a go.

Asante.

There are adapters sold that convert a laptop hard drive to a portable one.
I have 3 hard drives which cannot function inside a laptop. They died. But they work perfectly okay when i use the adapter.

Hard drive is probably loose

You hard drive has reached its life span …just replace it…lakini hata ukitoa utumie kama external it will still be slow compared to a new hard drive

Your hard drive is the problem but also check your boot device sequence you could have removed your hard drive from the option of bootable devices. Try f8 to f12 cannot remember ya HP ni gani then scroll the different options. If this ok then you harddrive could be loose so try to remove and attach again or worse it may have given up the fight.

It’s now with the computer technician checking on all these options. We will decide on the way forward tomorrow. Thanks guys.

Hi, would you by any chance recommend a credible seller for laptop adapters?

I now have new shiny hard drive, but I also need advise as to where to get a new Windows 10?

My comp technician installed a cracked version which doesn’t seem to work well. So I might have to get a new OS and install it myself.

@Lerionka, I should probably tag you for that last comment. Cheers!

Always consult youtube btw. Hizi vitu we learn online too.
Also, cheers.
This is what I’m talking about

External Hard Drives - Buy External HD Online | Jumia Kenya

You slide your hard drive into the casing and connect it to your computer like an external hard drive.
Generally inexpensive. ~500 in town.

Windows 10 is all over. Get an installation drive and keep it for times like this. I reset my computer almost monthly.

Okay, thanks a lot. I will have a look. Much appreciated.
