My HP laptop is stuck on a boot loop and gives me an error message as attached “no boot device”. Does anyone have an idea how to salvage my files on my dying hard disk drive? YouTube says I should just replace my hard drive and what causes this kind of a problem, virus attack or lack of hard drive space?
I would start by confirming that the drive is properly seated. Doesn’t hurt to use a screw driver to reseat and fasten the screws on the drive.
Then, use your original dvd or bootable flash drive to boot into recovery mode and use recovery options there. They include startup repair, system restore and system image recovery (only valid if you have an image backup).
You can also try hard drive diagnostics…how will depend on the make and model of your laptop.
Last shot will be to remove the drive and use an external enclosure to try and recover your files.
Other than that, always always at all times have a copy of your data backed up to an external.
Many thanks for your valuable advise. I will try the aforementioned steps, however, upon carrying out a “hard drive check”, my smart DST indicated as “Failed”.
Not sure if I still stand a chance of saving my data, but will give it a go.
There are adapters sold that convert a laptop hard drive to a portable one.
I have 3 hard drives which cannot function inside a laptop. They died. But they work perfectly okay when i use the adapter.
Your hard drive is the problem but also check your boot device sequence you could have removed your hard drive from the option of bootable devices. Try f8 to f12 cannot remember ya HP ni gani then scroll the different options. If this ok then you harddrive could be loose so try to remove and attach again or worse it may have given up the fight.
