It used to be.Now it is activated by you the āSPECIFICā Driver using a Chipped card that you personally slot in and the fact that it is chipped means it holds all info. about you. Any Cop in any country will quickly catch you out if you are a black man 6 foot tall with brown eyes pretending to be a 5 foot Caucasian male of Polish Nationality!
And which thicko will give you their card anyway even if they are off work?

Once watched this episode where a Turkish driver was stopped I think for overloading and he didnāt have his card (and DL?) with him. The company was penalized and truck detained till fine was paid. Employer took too long to wire the funds, nasty words were exchanged and driver resigned on the spot, leaving the truck in a foreign country. Hiyo kampuni ililipishwa pesa sio haba. In another episode, a German trucker was stopped in a Scandinavian country for ferrying an āout of gaugeā load (twas a prefabricated house, in parts) and not having his snow tyres. When they checked his card, they also found he hadnāt rested as long as is legally recommended in the preceding 24hrs (thatās when I knew of the automation bit). Dude was fined and ordered to sleep/rest as well as fit the winter tyres before proceeding with his journey.

You are too right.
In Europe there are no waste of time police roadblocks for personal cars because all info is on one database and its all on your number plate. But when you are moving cargo in a Commercial vehicle of any size especially with āForeignā Platesā¦ All Eyes o You!!!
You don`t even need to speak the language the coppers in that country are speaking,if they pull you over,the Tacograph does all the talking for you and Weigh bridges are never too far (they even have mobile ones ) .
But then again,you have to be a really thick Turkish HGV Driver to even risk breaking any Traffic law inside Europe.
