My attention has been drawn to an unfolding drama in this village, in which certain individuals have taken it upon themselves to disparage my character and those of other prominent Talkers who participated in the Revolution.
In this they have opted, like so many little people before them, to take the low road of insults, slurs and profanity.
On cue, their accolytes have taken up the chorus, commending and praise-singing on the supposed prowess of their indefatigable champions to hurl high-quality matusi. It is a theatre of the absurd, a bizarre caricature.
It is significant that many of those actively participating in this unfortunate charade are in one way or the other associated with the establishment here. They include moderators with all their secondary handles. It is not lost to us, for example, that some have even put up listings praising the eloquence and excellence of a rambling, pedestrian write-up that can barely muster a D in KCPE, what with its dismal diction and lack of observance of basic syntactical and grammatical rules, including the use of capital letters.
If mastery of English be the barometer of intelligence - and I am not saying it is - what does our praise of mediocrity and witlessness say of us? When we glority base profanity, what does that say of our moral bearing?
In the event, it is fair to conclude that more is at play here than meets the eye. To wit, it is not beyond imagination that huge egos were hurt during our collective campaign to level the playing ground here. As a consequence, many of you may in coming days get a taste of the vitriol and waste now coming our way. Be forewarned.
This, of course, is not without precedence, or to be unexpected.
Afterall, it is the fate of little people that they are forever cursed to feel diminished in the face of greatness. To side with tyranny and fascism. To gang up, like an army of rabid rodents, to try and pull down titans.
Those that participated in the resistance, on a matter of principle, are the kind of people who Kenya and Africa needs - people who speak truth to power, even in small places like Ktalk. These people are firm and fearless, but also dignified.
In all spheres of human endeavour, be it in the real world or in cyberspace, we need people like these, like you, to stand up for enduring human dignity and freedom. We need every day titans and heroes to help the disabled cross the road (not deride them). We need heroes and champions to speak up for little children, and not laugh at their misfortunes. We need heroes to wipe away the tears of widows, and not call them harlots.
And yes, we need heroes to stand up to cyberbullying, here and beyond.
As FMCP, I will not walk the low road. I will not be a little person. I will state my truth firmly and calmly, with dignity and grace. But I will not mince my words when a delusional or haughty villager, leader, neighbour or even relative takes it upon himself to disparage those he perceives to be weak because he thinks he can get away with it. I will not stand idly when lynch mobs gather at the gates.
I fervently believe that we are all born to greatness. The choice between the high and the low roads is ours to make.
I will walk the high road, even if I must walk alone.
Good day!
