The Crosses of Destruction
Announcement of an illegal eviction to come.
Approximately 1500 people live in the Kismayu slum in Nairobi South C, successor to the adjacent former City Cotton slum. Kismayu is one of the poorest slums of Nairobi.
The former City Cotton slum was in May 2013 attacked and wiped out by a joined force of gangsters and Kenyan police, paid for by the neighboring Moi Educational Centre, owned by former Kenyan president Moi. The Government of Kenya and Moi Educational Centre were found guilty for the illegal eviction in a Kenyan court ruling in 2015.
Moi went into appeal against the ruling and meanwhile fenced off the grabbed land. The appeal case is still going on. The survivors have pledged to not move away from the land that was once their village till they get it back. City Cotton existed for more than 50 years on that location. http://rxaxlxf.net/city-cotton/
Kismayu also has another neighbor who wants to set up a commercial recreation park next door. Currently the first construction of a baseball court is nearing its completion. The only thing that misses to get the masses to the park is a road. The road construction started on Thursday 18th of May and is since then steadily advancing towards the slum. The first huts have been destroyed, though they were mostly small shops. As no notice for eviction was given and also no other obligatory procedures are observed by the road constructors, an illegal & violent nightly attack is imminent. As the residents are not willing to give in to intimidation & illegal eviction, a severe bloody battle can be expected.
