I am currently looking at setting my Home Network as follows:
[ol]
[li]Use my own router instead of Safaricom. Not sure whether this is even possible[/li][li]Have Safaricom as the main router and another secondary router to give me more control of my network. So you will have Fiber> Safaricom Router> Second Router> Appliances. Have explored this and the main challenge is there is no option to set bridge mode[/li][/ol]
Anyone with knowledge on how to explore the above options.
Not possible for the home fiber, change your package to business that will be possible there have static ips
This is not for external access. Just internal network control.
Hio ya saf iko na port ya rj 45 active if so nunua Ile router ya 2500 tp link and connect it and use it
Which one is that!? Ebu Elaborate
Yeah. That’s more or less what I was thinking to do. I don’t have the contact details of the original installer but will try and get any…
sema ulishindwa kujua kuitumia si kusema ni mkebe thats why ziko mingi kwa soko na wale wanaijua wanaitumia vile iko
Jimii fiber router wanatumia IP Gani…was trying the default IP address Ile ya tp link ikafail
Quality yake ndio mbaya si eti sijui itumia kaka.
192.168.1.1
Well it depends on your ISP if they will provide you with the pppoe creds or your static IP, from their depending on your budget I would get a SFP capable router and buy myself a GPON SFP and get rid of the crappy all in one ISP routers but this doesn’t make any financial or time sense kama ni package ya less than 500Mbps.

I have this leta pesa nikuuzie. But you will have to discard the saf router and use any other.
Haiwork bado
Any router will do, but one that can be flashed with openwrt is recommended. Connect it to saf, Configure DMZ. Just make sure the second router is in a different subnet. Normally saf hukuwa 192.168.100.1, so any other i.e. 192.168.1.1 or 172.16.100.1, 0r 192.168.0.1, etc will do.
Safaricom Fibre ends at their router level… Now from that router you can setup your own network which will point to the “internal” side of the Safaricom router… In fact that internal part is the gateway of your devices whose subnet details you can easily find out… Now, to access your internal devices from the “public” side, you need to open up the resource (port) on the Safaricom router itself and do something called port forwarding… in 2023, you do not need to have all internal devices allocated public IP addresses to access them from “outside”… You can carry out more research on “overloading”, Name Servers, etc… And for you to be helped, you need to specify what you want to achieve by setting up your private LAN utilizing the Fibre network from Safaricom (or any other service provider for that matter)…
That’s what I did. Getting double NAT though…
- Network wide add blockage
- More Granular Network Control/ Metrics like Data Usage, Security…
