wakubwa looking for a decent DSLR for a beginner I’m not a professional photographer. should be available locally. budget about 50k.
any suggestions will be appreciated.
I intent to use is for photography in game drives and parties
Nikon D3300 or D5200 two of my desirable options
Go mirrorless achana na mizigo mzito mzito
currently Battery life is awful on those mirrorless cameras. Focusing speed iko down in comparison to a dslr, na vitu kaa lens options.
The world’s fastest Autofocus speed record is held by a mirrorless camera Sony a6300, Battery life? current mirrorless can shoot 4K for 30 minutes…when it comes to stills, I don’t know how many you have to take before you drain the battery from a full charge maybe 5000. How many lenses do you need maybe three for a beginner with one being a prime but the market has around 15 different lenses for mirrorless
Well, forget about that high-end A6300, lets talk within his budget, kindly recommend a mirrorless that packs better battery, image quality and focus speeds…

I bought wifey an A6000. The thing is a beast, very good resolution, autofocus is amazing. That thing fires a barrage of shots like a fully automatic firearm.
I also had the chance to play with my pals Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II. The camera is a powerful like the first nut you bust. Superb picture quality.
But here is the downside, as a man its feels small in your hands. Its like still using a very fancy point and shoot. If you want to feel weight and turn that lens to zoom and focus while taking pictures, these micro-four thirds are not for you. Someone like @Riva will feel odd using the thing.
The cost if the lenses for micro-four third cameras is not cheap. Some of the better rated zoom lenses for the sony cost upwards of $300. Thats more than half the cost of the camera with a basic lens!
I would still recommend a beginner to get an entry - mid level dslr to start with. The guy should go with what @123tokambio has recommended or the Canon equivalents.
When the guy is comfortable with those and has money to throw around he can go with a micro-four thirds.

DSRL ni mzigo you cant carry it everywhere. My Panasonic Lumix GX850 has never left my bag…I hardly notice it’s presence and I hardly use my phone for photography. My friend has an olympus epl8 which can be used as a selfie camera as well and beats any phone in the business.
Second you can’t do people photography comfortably with a DSLR as many people will sidestep your view or look awkward in the photo. You could even be confused for an alshabaab.
Third the ability to keep the body and lens together is very convenient unatoa camera na unaanza ku-shoot instantly…these cameras allow for silent shooting so people won’t even notice you. The DSLR makes you look like a paparazzi and always trying too hard every shot you take can be heard across the room.
If you buy a DSLR you’ll end up using your phone more for photography coz it’s more convenient and you look less awkward
@nairobilay the sony is not a micro four third, it has an APC sensor similar to what you find in some DSLR like canon EOS 60D. It’s mirrorless but not M43. I think only panasonic, olympus and fuji make microfourthirds. Here is an image showing the crop factor as compared to a full frame sensor

Mirrorless explained
Let me experiment with the Sony for a while. Its only been in the house for 1month. will have a better evaluation when i have tried taking some proper pics with it.
That Rokinon lens is like $400. brand new…do you know of a reputable site i can get second-hand/refurbished lens for the a6000? i dont want to use ebay.
Amazon then get a local shipping company to deliver…or ebay but use express shipping comes at a cost but you get your item in a week and then manouver through taxation.
can you guys recommend shops in town I can buy from. siku hizi cons and unscrupulous traders ni wengi.
also I appreciate the advice thus far
Universal Gift Centre, Kenyatta Avenue next to Simmers.
but if you want to save properly, order from amazon or ebay or whatever and ship it down.
