Check World War 2 numbers. Just because Hitler didn’t succeed in conquering the Soviets doesn’t mean he lost against them. He killed more of them than they killed his Germans. The Soviet Union suffered the most casualties in World War 2. In a war, everyone loses but the Soviets were the bigger losers.
I see you have edited your comment that it is statistically insignificant. I was coming to point out to you the Iraq-Iran war of 80s; Iraq were fighting in Iran, took long but they were driven out. Then the first gulf war, Iraq were driven from Kuwait, but this was against a super power, so it might not count
