blocking ads on Android apps

I find these pop-ups so annoying, slow down device performance and data Wastage. Most apps from playstore come with such ads. Android users, how do I solve this? Or which is the best ad blocking app, device already rooted

Someone mentioned here that rooting gives you the ability to block ads system wide. Am not sure though; too chicken shit to attempt this treacherous route/root.

since lollipop days to root you have to unlock bootloader first, the flash a custom recovery then use the custom recovery to flash SuperSU zip which roots your phone
