Between Uhuru and RAO = Who Is More Likely To Save Nabii In 2027?

President William Ruto on Monday, December 9, visited his former boss Uhuru Kenyatta at his Gatundu home.

This was the second time the two leaders were meeting in less than a month after their initial meeting in Embu during the consecration and installation of Bishop Peter Kimani Ndung’u.

According to State House, Ruto took the time to appreciate his predecessor during the meeting for the smooth transition of power after the 2022 Presidential elections.

“President Ruto thanked Uhuru Kenyatta for laying a strong foundation that enabled the government to implement key programs under the Bottom-Up Economic transformation agenda,” the statement from State House read.

Among the issues that also came up during the two leaders’ meeting was the prompt resolution of the court matters, which was the main obstacle hindering the reconstitution of the IEBC.

Further, Uhuru and Ruto also came together to urge Kenyans to stand behind their former adversary Raila Odinga’s candidature for the African Union Chair bid.

The timing of Uhuru and Ruto’s meeting was interesting since it came at a time when the battle for supremacy in the Mount Kenya region was intensifying.

Notably, Uhuru Kenyatta has been active with public appearances in recent weeks, a stark contrast to the silence he subjected Kenyans to in the months prior.

On Saturday, December 7, 2024, the former Head of State, was present during the wedding of Kalonzo Musyoka’s daughter Damarie Saada Kalonzo.

Kalonzo, a fierce critic of President Ruto’s regime, later reiterated his cordial relationship with Uhuru by issuing a public statement thanking the Jubilee party boss for his presence.

The meeting also came amid a looming cabinet reshuffle, with several cabinet secretaries potentially on the chopping board.

The bigger picture: From a political standpoint, it is easy to see why political leaders are intent on having Uhuru Kenyatta in their corner, three years to the general election.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has openly expressed his intention to rival Ruto for the presidency in 2027, and the key battleground between the two leaders appears to be the Mount Kenya region.

Since the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo has publicly backed the embattled former DP by openly calling out the state for allegedly frustrating Gachagua in different forms.

More recently, Gachagua and Kalonzo have collectively criticised the government over delays in the reconstitution of the IEBC.

:popcorn: kwa winging, it’s going to get interesting

Ruto has punctured himself enough,he can only sink. Its proper if he recruits more wolfs in sheep skin so that the boat sinks faster and deeper with all our problems.

Its a fact Uhuru and Waiguru exploited our country at the treasury and later on when Uhuru became president, with Ruto. Then some ex Kanu pretenders we all know.

They should disappear

The 2027 General Elections discourse took a fresh turn after a senior insider at the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) hinted that the party might present a running mate for President William Ruto.

Kisumu Senator Prof Tom Ojienda on Thursday, January 9, seemingly confirmed the long-standing belief that Ruto and Raila will join hands in the forthcoming polls. The result of this coalition would see ODM fielding a Deputy President candidate.

“The way we are going in 2027 is that we are going to support President William Ruto for a second term. ODM is going to be a major player,” Ojienda stated.

“I think the coalition agreement may include the possibility of having a deputy president from ODM. I think then we can have positions shared between UDA and ODM IN 2027,” Ojienda averred.

While speaking on Citizen TV’s Day Break show, Ojienda stated that the ODM party would play a significant role in the upcoming elections, suggesting that a restructuring of government was on the cards if Ruto emerged victorious.

“2027 is a different ballgame. UDA and ODM will form a coalition; they will agree on the structure. The structure will include a Prime Cabinet Secretary, of course, and a Chief Cabinet Secretary. The framework will ensure inclusivity,” he noted.

Ojienda’s comments seemingly contradicted those of ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, who insisted that ODM would present a presidential candidate in 2027, given the current political climate.

Sifuna questioned the feasibility of an alleged ODM alliance with Ruto, stating that the current President has lost widespread popularity across the country, particularly in Mt. Kenya, which voted overwhelmingly for him in 2022.

“Looking at the political dynamics in the country right now, it would be very foolish for ODM not to field a presidential candidate in 2027. ODM just needs to retain all of its constituencies because Ruto has lost almost half of his constituencies in Mt. Kenya. How do you help someone when you can help yourself?”

In light of recent developments, political battle lines have been drawn, with various leaders beginning to drum up support in regions across the country. This has led to top leaders on both sides of the political divide forming alliances in the lead-up to the polls.

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa have intimated at forming an alliance that would most likely challenge Ruto in 2027.

Gachagua, who was Ruto’s running mate in the previous polls is expected to be part of the three-pronged alliance after his fallout with Ruto. Since then, he has become a staunch critic of the current administration highlighting their inefficiencies and faults.

Kalonzo reportedly fell out with fellow Azimio co-principal Raila Odinga and adopted the title of the ‘Leader of the People’s Loyal Opposition’ and has been receptive to Gachagua’s advances.

Even so, the prolonged constitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) remains a stumbling block as it hampers the electioneering process.
