Kukula khupipi ya jirani. Kumbe mabibi za wenyewe ni swafi hivi? No expenses za nyewele, au credo, au nguo au shopping.
I was battling depression around 2005, and just as I was about to quit college, I went to the local Kenya national library services and picked up a philosophy book by English philosopher Bertrand Russell. I always skipped classes anyway, so I always went to the library to read newspapers and magazines to pass time.
However, that day, I decided to go the book section huko kwa literature and philosophy sections and man, I have never experienced so much intellectual satisfaction like I did on that day. From then on, I changed my views on life changed for the better. I became somehow of an intellectual monk where I experience world’s and universes far removed from the daily boring life that often stressed me in the past. I then joined literature forums and people in those forums were some of the most interesting and brightest Kenyans. Very humble and bright people, who if you judged them on first impression look like watu wa kawaida. Some of them I dare say are more intelligent than so called professors and opinion leaders - yet they are content in teaching high school students or being a court clerk.
I never thought that my depression was to be the thing that caused me to discover my passion for reading and writing, or even meeting new friends who are not only intellectually sharp, but also who bring positive influence in your life.
Anyway, I stayed glued to that book for hours, and I can frankly say, that reading philosophy and literature is the best decision I have made in my life so far.
I 2nd this. You later start to look at women from “huyu anaweza kuwa jangili” angle, making you less susceptible to being duped by a pretty face and big ass.
I hope you finally managed to get out of the depression
