So the agreement was he finances her education, then she’ll marry him as a second wife.
This is sickening to even talk about but since it’s happening in our society, let’s hurry through it.
They’ve been in that relationship for eight years. After the girl graduated, she changed her mind and dumped him. That’s when he attacked her with a corrosive substance to her face.
First of all, she was obviously very young, possibly under 20. Legally she was an adult and may even be accused of obtaining money by false pretenses. But psychologically she was too young.
We all know people attain psychological maturity after 25. As we’ve always said, any relationship with pre-25s is a voluntary assumption of risk. They look easy and tempting because you can win them with very little effort and petty cash.
But they’re also developing mentally and their commitments or promises are that much unstable.
Back to this story, a grown man who takes advantage of a young girl’s desperate situation to commit her to a bad deal cannot claim to be innocent.
Why would a young woman with all the options in the world settle for marrying an already married man?
She may have agreed when she was desperate to get an education, but the passage of time allowed her to see it for what it was. A trap.
None of these people is innocent but the one who knew better ought to have done better.
The man could have sought a wife among those seeking marriage. A stranded student is not thinking about marriage but education and survival.
Even if you get her to agree to it, you also know she hasn’t really understood what she’s agreeing to.
The truth is that a man who pays fees for a girl is just buying sex expensively. There’s no guarantee for the future. He should be content with what he gets in the moment.
My advice for girls is that education is not a do-or-die affair. You don’t have to trade your freedom and your future for it.
You can hustle without it or resume it part time later in life when you’re more capable financially.
As for the men who are cornering needy girls with school fees, you deserve to be left. You should have channeled your money to better things or used it as bride price to marry women who are actually seeking marriage, not adolescent girls who couldn’t even think straight.
