Azimio Leader Raila Odinga Announces Return of Mass Protests in 2024
- by BRIAN KIMANI on Saturday, 30 December 2023
Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga on Saturday announced the return of maandamano in 2024.
Speaking in Nyanza, Raila blamed the government for increasing taxes which have led to a tough economic situation across the country.
He gave the Kenya Kwanza regime an ultimatum to either remove the taxes or they would bring back maandamano in 2024.
“In this government, you thought that the ‘hustlers’ would hear you. We found out that they were just words. Kenyans felt bad about the situation in 2023,” he stated.

“We told them not to increase taxes but they went ahead and raised the taxes, worsening the situation. These taxes must be revoked, the Finance Act must be removed. If they don’t we will return to the streets in 2024.”
During his speech, Raila further rallied the youth and women from Siaya County to join the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
The Azimio leader has in the past weeks been on a membership drive to attract thousands of supporters to join the party as it gears up for grassroots elections in 2024.
Azimio supporters had urged Raila to call for the return of mass protests in an attempt to force the Kenya Kwanza administration to renege on some of their policies.
According to Azimio, some of the irreducible minimums included lowering the cost of living by revoking the taxes stipulated by the government.
The opposition had initially called off the protests to pave way for dialogue through the National Dialogue Committee, led by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Wiper party’s Kalonzo Musyoka.
Following extensive meetings, the committee presented the report to President William Ruto who agreed with the recommendations. Raila, on the other hand, indicated that he agreed with the findings albeit with some reservations.
In January, the recommendations will be deliberated in Parliament before they are adopted.
Wewe ndiye uko obsessed na yeye. You follow him around daily posting negative comments about him. He lives rent free in your head.
Raila is a fraud. He has sold his supporters To three governments and he had already sold them again to Ruto for personal gains.
Raila may be a messiah to you but unlike most Kenyans i see the whole lot of Kenyan politicians as ghaseers bottom barrel takatakas who feed off feeble minded Kenyans like you
Ruto Releases Ksh31 Billion Capitation Fund After Raila Ultimatum
- by KIOKO NYAMASYO on Wednesday, 3 January 2024
President William Ruto on Wednesday, January 3, bowed to Azimio Leader Raila Odinga’s ultimatum to release funds for school capitation.
In a statement from State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed, it was reported that the National Treasury had released Ksh31.34 billion in preparation for school opening next week.
Ksh4.74 billion of the total sum was disbursed to the State Department for Basic Education towards the facilitation of free primary education for Term 1.
Additionally, the State Department was further given Ksh7.6 billion as capitation for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).
Hussein Mohammed explained that the rest of the money would be used for school examinations and invigilation fees (Ksh2.8 billion) and free day secondary education (Ksh16.2 billion).
In his Tuesday statement, Raila had accused Ruto of managing the education sector through lies remarking that the total money owed to schools from the Financial Year 2022/2023 was Ksh18 billion.
“As schools await opening head teachers are struggling to meet the basic resourcing needs of their schools,” Raila had stated.
Raila further remarked that Ruto had lied to parents by stating that the Kenya Kwanza administration had increased allocations to the education sector and enhanced capitation for all learners.
“The government must release all the monies owed to schools. It must also release capitation at the approved rate of Ksh22,244 per child for the financial year 2023/2024,” Raila issued an ultimatum.
